I object to this!

This paragraph in the latest edition of In The Know
It clearly says that the Tote and Operator contributes 80% of the stakes and the punter only marginally
When in fact it’s 100% punters money

No different to the ANC saying that they provide all things...when it is really the fleeced taxpayer / ratepayer that does...
Are P and GC and the ANC one and the same as they methods and thinking are the same?...we are truly in the age of the arrogance of ignorance...

Am I reading this wrong. IMHO it could be worded better and more clearly but i think the intention is to show that punters who spend their money with bookmakers are not really helping and contributing to the pool as bookmakers only pay the 6% tax and nothing else. Of course the tote is kept going by punters, we all know that but probably they should have acknowledged that.

Not much comprehension of the actual "punters" contribution.
In fact the call was to try and drop the 6% on racing tax to level the playing field with sports betting.

Although the argument about bookies not contributing enough to the sport is valid the question is how much of the intended funds actually reach racing currently. It is estimated that over 80 000 jobs have been lost locally since the introduction of corporatisation.
Racing admittedly is not the profit spinner that it once was but in the absence of tangible attempts to grow and support the sport how much should a company be entitled to in terms of tax breaks and sympathy.
If racing was fully supported by the operator all of us would feel very different about this issue and supporting the tote. It is time for all the stakeholders of racing to work together for the common good of the industry so that the sport can make positive contributions to employment and employment creation but the current model does not lend itself to this objective.

Its mind boggling. As Bob correctly points out, its 100% punters money.
