Archipenko: connections are keen to have a crack at the Arlington Million
ARCHIPENKO is next likely to be seen in action in America as connections are keen to have a crack at the Arlington Million next month.
Formerly with Aidan O'Brien, the Kingmambo colt has been a revelation for South African trainer Mike de Kock, winning a valuable Group 1 affair in Hong Kong before taking the Summer Mile at Ascot on Saturday.
Archipenko is still in the upcoming BGC Sussex Stakes at Goodwood, but de Kock is favouring another stamp in his globetrotting star's passport.
De Kock said: "It looks like we're going to go to Chicago with him as it looks like the right option for us to take.
"It's really always been the plan to go to America, even though he proved himself right up there at Ascot last time.
"It's also probably a very good race for us to try to expose him as a future stallion in."
Archipenko is also still in the Juddmonte International at York next month but would be unlikely to make an appearance on the Knavesmire if all goes to plan in America.
"No race like the Million is an easy one but it might just be a bit more winnable as there are a couple of very good 10-furlong horses around in Britain at the moment," he explained.
"It was a hell of a race at Ascot lastweek and I must admit I fancied the horse but then chickened out a bit when I saw the field he was up against.
"Even with Ramonti needing the run I think the third horse (Cesare) had the form that ties in with some of the best horses around over a mile in England, so I was very impressed with him."
While de Kock is keen to showcase Archipenko's talents on a global stage, he is not anticipating retiring him to stud any time soon.
"He showed a lot of speed and courage at Ascot and we'd like to race him on again next year," he added.
"He's been training great recently and with the purses on offer in Dubai we would love to go back there and have another crack at the Dubai Duty Free."
