Frodo, we read it differently then. The weights are final now so MR is no longer an issue IMO, the weights will go up proportionally from the final weights declared on Tuesday. If the top two come out all horses would be increased by 1,5 kg's regardless of their MR.

This is also my understanding as well. Albeit, the little that I have on the weight/handicapping system.

Not arguing - just trying to follow your reasoning ..... I agree 'all horses would be increased by 1.5 kgs' - so as it stands

Coral Fever (118) is set to carry 60 kg
Made to Conquer (102) handicap weight should be 52 kg, but due to the July conditions he will be set to carry 53 kg - so would be 1 kg 'out'

If Abashiri at 115 becomes the top weight at 60kg
Made to Conquer at 102 - handicap weight should be 53.5, which is what he will be set in the July - so no longer 'out' ?

Apologies. He will be out if Abashiri is top weight. Made to Conquer will suppose to be getting 6.5kgs in this scenario because of the merit rating difference of 13 but he will be getting 5.5kgs as they will raise the weights by 1.5kgs so he will be out by 1kg. Thats my understanding.

When is the final field going to be announced? I think both Coral Fever and Gold Standard will run.

Bottom line remains ANS is well in because of his Met run. Hope he sits a little handier and finds a gap at the right time. With his turn of foot on the short run in......race over!

Thanks - I get it now  they will raise the weights as allocated for the July - not the weights they should be carrying as per their ratings - so it would make no difference ito being 'out' - the ones that will be 'out' if Coral Fever is top weight, will still be 'out' by the same margin if Abashiri is top weight - which all boils down to ANS winning in a canter B) no matter which horse is top weight

if ANS draws 1 - 5 , it will need a miracle to find a run in the straight , would wait for the draws before dashing out to take 18/10 :S

Yip, bad luck in running can deny any horse - no matter what the draw - still very chuffed with my betting slip showing 8/1 :cheer:

18 horses around that corner is a recipe for disaster. i still predict a train wreck sooner or later.

ANS doesn't only run from the back of the field. I believe he was placed there in his last two starts to look after his merit rating. He usually is placed around midfield where I am sure they will look to have him in the July. A low draw will be perfect for him as he has good gate speed and can be placed where they want him. I also have backed him at 7's, 8's and 10's so have no need to back him again.
