Apache of the mark
7 years 1 month ago
The Scott Bros bred and based young stallion The Apache was represented by his first winner from his first crop of two-year-olds when daughter Adorable Analia broke her maiden impressively at Greyville on Sunday.
Trained by bang in-form conditioner Gavin Van Zyl (who also trained The Apache himself), the Rosedene Stud bred filly romped to an effortless one and a half length win over 1400m for owner Mr Leslie Logan.
Adorable Analia, who was produced by the In The Money mare Idilic Charm (a half-sister to the dam of Legal Eagle), was a R120 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale .
A son of Storm Cat sire Mogok, The Apache was a bargain R80 000 purchase from the 2009 Emperors Palace National Two Year Old Sale.
He would go on to earn well over R17 million, stamping himself as one of the best buys of the century.
South Africa's Equus Champion 3YO Colt of 2011, The Apache won six times in South Africa, with his local wins including the G1 Champions Cup, G1 Daily News 2000 and G2 Dingaans.
Exported to Dubai, The Apache won the G2 Al Rashidiya and ran second in both the G1 Dubai Duty Free and G1 Jebel Hatta. He would go on to finish first past the post in the 2013 G1 Arlington Million but was later disqualified and demoted to second.
The Apache was produced by Dolpour mare Apache Rose -a four time winning own sister to Allez France Handicap winner Sugar Magnolia and to Golden Slipper third West West.
His granddam, Bold West, was a top class racemare, whose nine wins included the G2 (now G1) Gilbeys Stakes.
