You don't need a lot of money to shorten a first timer, but i believe "It Is Not Over" will start a lot shorter than the 10/1 on offer

This looks an incredibly tough card so exotics may be the best play on the day.

Race 1 - Tough race to start the day, both short priced horses are not bomb proof. Quick Glimpse and Dreamsaremadeof, both have stand out pieces of form but are both unreliable. Mattina could be the value here and should still be improving. Others to include are Vat Sixty Eight who should improve on first start and It Is Not Over will not have to be a superstar to win this on debut. Tough start...

Rae 2 - Just can't be with Agent Kay at that price. Corrido needs to behave to be in with a shout but is capable. Timkat is another of interest and will definitely enjoy the step up in trip after finishing strongly in the last 200m latest. Shakespeareinlove gets her fillies allowance but jumps from a poor draw and will need to be at her best. Another horse to consider is Mogok's Time who put up a decent debut and although has a poor draw, biggish odds are tempting at around 14/1. Timkat will be the play here though.

Race 3 - A few of these are unexposed and that's where I would be looking. Dressed to Impress is believed to be useful by the Woodruff's and her last start proved she is capable. Chariot of Gold was extremely impressive in putting her maiden behind her and showed a scintillating turn of foot. This may come to soon though and Zargun is preferred on collateral form. MDK should bring her back fit and raring to go.

Race 4 - A staying maiden is always tough to get right and this looks no different. Collegiate looks the obvious one yet his will to win is questionable. Voodoo and Discoverer bring consistent form to the table and should be in the shake up but can't be trusted for win purposes as both are struggling maidens. Forgotten Hero and Knysna Jet have potential to improve over the ground and would be interesting but are risky propositions. The class of the race just causes too many questions to be answered. No bet.

Race 5 - A high quality handicap with a lot of 3YO derby hopefuls in this. The Rocketman has shown some serious guts and will be looking for his fourth win. It may be tough for him to give weight away here though. Big Parade showed a touch of class before things went wrong for him in Cape Town and is a horse that I have followed for some time. He may be in need of this and its surely a stepping stone to the derby but he could come back with a bang here. Manhattan Cocktail is the interesting one. His last start came too soon for him and can be excused. He has shown supreme quality and with this light weight on his back he needs to be a serious contender in this. Of the older horses, Starpath could be interesting. His mark has tumbled and with Stardom up, could have a say.

Race 6 - The Van Vuuren stable looks to hold all the aces here with two entries that bring quality form to this. With this being a 1500m Doosra comes into play. Had it been a mile trip he wouldn't look as appealing. Irish Pride had a fantastic comeback run, has the draw and Gavin Lerena up. Count Tassilo and Shukamisa jump from poor draws but are on interesting marks and could give some cheek. Count Tassilo each way would be my tentative pick.

Race 7 - A lot of these are slipping down the rating and have chances. The booking of Strydom on Streetwear is eye catching and needs to be monitored. Wotahottie enjoys this track and can go close. In The Game has been showing some consistency and must be respected. However Pachuco looks like a standout. Form lines are strong, stable form is returning, good jockey and competitive mark. He is the pick.

Race 8 - Arabian Beat sets the standard here but may be too high in the weights. Mardi Gras looks to have some decent potential and will be one to follow. Wild Curve fits the same profile and must be respected. Fabian Habib has just recently got his license and Wild Curve could be his first success and is the pick from a value perspective.

Race 9 - Great Shaka has proven he is as tough as nails and can once again be competitive. Pillaroftheearth has lost his form slightly and will need to improve to win this. Rebel Renegade could be the right one form the stable however reliability is an issue for him. Dragoon has dropped to a nice mark and Clinton Binda loves playing in these sprint handicaps. He appeals and is the each way stab.

MATTINA e/w
DANCING REBEL best fixed 4 place bet - has placed 50% this season - maybe a few wins and small exactas float 1,2,3,4,16
Tigerlace best e/w
COLLEGIATE/ FESTIVE LINNGARI should be enough for bipot pa
VISIGOTH - I would think he might be the type that would go for the Derby so a big run needed if he is to go for that race.(I think a few of the 3yr olds in this race might be looking at the Derby)
SHUKAMISA e/w maybe float field exacta
TRIP TO PARADISE e/w fixed 4 places float exacta field
BOATSWAIN and MARDI GRAS sw I think Mardis Gras is a horse to follow - as a 78 he has lots of room to move in the coming months - I would think that on the way he has run thus far he will end up being at least 85-95MR by the end of the year as long as he stays sound.
WELLSPRING include in all bets e/w and exacta float field
