What will be interesting today will be what merit ratings Oh Susanna and Last Winter will be given. The 3 runners behind them were running off a 118 a 123 and a 118.
Oh Susanna's new rating could be around 10 points higher than Snowdance.
If Snowdance can get 2200 meters I recon we could see the reverse of Met day whereby Snowdance goes for the July and Oh Susanna the Garden Province.
As far as I am aware they cannot adjust the rating of the 6th horse upwards so African Night Sky will still be running off a 102. With 53 kg's in the July that would make him a massive runner.
Long way to go though and plenty can still happen.

Let's have some early betting or interbet to put up the fields and the market to establish itself.

Not sure about Snowdance going further than 1600

Ratings will be interesting (and of course with the July being a handicap, these will be key ....) - as I stated in another thread, the handicapper has to decide whether Legal Eagle, Captain America and Marinaresco all ran 8-10 pounds below their ratings, or if Krambambuli, African Night Sky, Safe Harbour and even Coral Fever ran 8 to 10 pounds above their ratings .... whichever way he goes, there is a 50% chance of being wrong

Definitely agree though that if the Snaiths can protect African Night Sky's rating until the July, he should start favorite

....I'm with Frodo here....the Captain Al's are notorious for being range bound.....sure some have won in stayers class but they have that distance genome in the dam side..... Snowdance has that magic tail line of Mystic Spring dam of Rabiya and Bela Bela both could get a trip ....but the dam sire Joshua Dancer seems to negate and deviate to more speed than stamina....and then her style of running is that of a classic miler....
....doubt if she will be left in training long enough for the Mystic Spring staying influence to eventually kick in.....

It doesn't really matter in my opinion...if Last Winter takes part he will win the MR doesn't matter.. personally I don't think he should be wasting his time in SA

The answer to the question of who is the best 10 furlong horse in the country right now has to be LAST WINTER.
Great to see a changing of the guard!

The july will be dominated by the 3yos i doubt that the highly rated horses will run in the race having to give lumps of weight away to up and coming 3yos ...the fact that the solitary 3yo and that being a fillly won the met and the fact that t these 3yos will get so much better and stronger in 6 months gives very little chance to the older brigade ..As for african night sky he had the run of the race and couldnt fetch a place in the met so will have to find a 3 to 4 lengths improvement to be a factor in the july..its a pity that the derby and the lucrative sales race is on the same day as the firstly the derby is comprimised and secondly the met is also and i cant recall a 3yo disgracing him or herself in the met when they rarely compete in it..i stand by what i said that legal eagle wouldnt have paraded with the greats of yesteryear as can you imagine how many mets the likes of wolf power horse chestnut empress club flaming rock and dynasty would have won at the weight for age terms its run at now unlike in their era when it was a handicap..i can tell you for nothing that none of those mentioned would have been beaten by milton anytime anywhere

Peter D knows what he's doing but to keep Last Winter in a country like SA would be silly.. He's a 4 Yr old colt.. One Grade 1 win in UK or HK he's worth international stud money prices
