.....yes this is also my beef with the man....the salesgate saga saw the beginning of the end of the smaller breeders and middle market owners.....where to now for this industry...... now that he has turned it on it's head.....the impact on the industry as a whole will set us back at least 30 years....

OTA, better YOU get the facts. But, of course for the embittered in Racing, any speculation against any one in Racing, long before any charges are laid or a guilty verdict is found, is good enough.
Why can you and your cronies not just let the process run its course BEFORE judging.
You are all so good at throwing stones whilst you remain faceless and nameless behind your screens.
If the man is guilty, he must pay the price. Simple.

Jooste has only been good for sa racing and its very sad for the game . This will also affect other big owners like van niekerk, wernars and braam as they all involved with steinhoff ,or have sold there business to steinhoff for shares in steinhoff. Trainers will be severely affected down to grooms
How can you say this??
He used his wealth to monopolise the industry. And then dictated to the industry to suit his needs. No monopoly can ever be healthy. The fall out Will be evidence of this.

many trainers around the country must be very worried , some more than others . I am no financial guru but logic tells me that the Mayfair train is going to grind to a halt . I also feel for Joe public that may be invested in one way or another . MJ was/is a most impressive individual and many people would have been taken up by him . I often sat in awe when I tried to calculate what sort of wealth he must have had to spend the kind of cash he did . Did he not spend R39 million on a couple of horses he bought in the UK not so long ago ? If that is correct that is serious cash for one man to spend , considering he does not come from old money , his cash was all self made.
It can only be your ego that takes you to this level . What is the figure you need to be happy ?
1 billion / 10 billion......100 billion, crazy

In the short term many people will be affected by the demise of Mayfair
but lets think long term
Racing will become more competitive particularly in Cape Town
But this will take time and the many small owners that have vanished may not be replaced
The sales will also change and prices will come down so breeders will be affected but prices
will be market related and not be controlled by buybacks
The Ready to Run sales have been BS with horses going there to qualify for a big stake race paid for by buyers and breeders
Lets hope the NHRA get a system in place that new trainers can get licenced in less that 5 years
There are many other things that could be done to promote horseracing but find somebody
with business experience not broken down commentators etc

Will there definitely be a demise?
Impossible to survive imho
Steinhoff unlikely to survive as Wiese has always been too highly geared
Many years ago he was taken on by Roux of Boland bank who became Capitec a huge
success story In a court case Roux said "he has assets of R100m but liabilities of R99M
so if I win how do I get paid"

i doubt it.it all depends on the germans.if they prosecute him, then it could mean the end of mr jooste on the local racing scene, but if they don't,then he will carry on ,because in rsa nothing will happen to him,our country is too corrupt to prosecute him.remember this man was in control of billions of rands and cents and im sure he has a decent stash or money reserved for a rainy day.remember steinhof are being accused of fraudulent activities and ultimately they will get the blame,mr jooste altho in charge of steinoff,is still not guilty of any fraudulent activities, unless the germans can prove he is guilty of any wrongdoing.he might have to scale down a bit because he wont have the billions available to him,but im sure he will have plenty money still around to carry on with his hobby of horseracing.just remember innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Many innocent people are about to lose their jobs and some pensions will be cut
When will some people here understand that a crime of huge magnitude has been
committed
4 months ago the board were warned by THEIR auditors but chose to believe
their Chief Exec who obviously was a conman and talked holes in their heads

THIS IS NOT FUNNY:
A Wikipedia user is stalking Markus Jooste's entry on the online encyclopedia with some profane edits.
On Thursday afternoon and Friday morning‚ a Wikipedia user updated Jooste’s Wikipedia page on a number of occasions.
The first edit was to the introductory paragraph and it was changed to read “He was reported to be one of Africa's richest individuals ($400 million) and is an avid lover of horses and a massive poes.”
The change was quickly identified as vandalism by another user and changed back.
This follows the dramatic crash of furniture retailer Steinhoff‚ which had lost R194-billion of its total market value by close of trading on Thursday. Jooste resigned as CEO on Tuesday‚ after 28 years at the helm.
But the anonymous crusader did not stop there. Only an IP address appears under the edits‚ which seem to be ongoing.
Under the “Early Life” heading‚ the user changed the description to read: “Jooste has a degree in money laundering from Stellenbosch University aka Stellenbosch mafia.”
It had previously simply stated that Jooste had a degree in accounting from the university.
Screenshots from Wikipedia showing Jooste's occupation changed to 'Inmate' (left) and known for 'massive corrupt practices' (right)

Under the shortened bio‚ the same user updated Jooste’s profile under “known for” to “massive corrupt practices and poeseet”.
Other Wikipedia users are frantically updating the page to remove the slanderous epithets‚ but seemed to be unable to keep up with the anonymous villain.
The page is continually being changed - and returned to its former state.
