Most expensive horses in South Africa

I think makes for an interesting discussion.
I stand to be corrected but this is what I've found on De Kocks horse in the first tomorrow at the Vaal.
DHABYAAN
Colt Medaglia d'Oro (USA) Kiss the Sun Yarraman Park Stud, Scone, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum
UNITED ARAB EMIRATES $875,000
That equates to over R9.5M.
Any other more expensive horses in SA?

Holy cow...R24 bar. Was Lawn not an exceptionally expensive (flop) horse?

Understandably many are bought more for breeding purposes but wow to even recoup half of the fee you gotta be half decent. Ante omnia at Fairview today for example was a 3 bar buy. Not gonna get half of his value back?
Gotta have serious ammo to fork out some of these fees. Couple of houses in Hout Bay instead?

Magi correct Lawn I'm sure was trained by Johnny Nicholson but may be wrong. We're many yearling sales toppers that flopped. Wonder if any actually earned more than they cost.

He may not have been a boom horse but Lawn was not a flop.

Correct. Record price at the time R3m yearling. Was a good horse- MR 97 but not top class, and earned under R400k stakes.
Probably the most expensive import was stallion Trippi around R50m, but he was worth it!

This topic was out before....most expensive horsr to race in SA was NO DOUBT DEJA for markus jooste trained by Charlie laird.only won once i think and that was it after about 4 odd runs i gather....without formgrids im lost to provide more info.....biggest flop in terms of spending to buy a racehorse stand to be corrected think is was about 4 -5 bar aussie dollars bought in the days of the Garden course when laird stepped out his Aussie bombs...
