7 years 7 months ago
Jack Milner: South African horseracing will be stepping into the vibrant world of Cartier with the news that the international fine jewellery company has taken over the sponsorship of the Grade 1 Paddock Stakes in 2018. The race will on Saturday 6 January, the same day as the R1.5-million L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate.
Cartier came on board as a co-sponsor of the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate in 2016 and this year will also sponsor the Grade 2 Sceptre Stakes over 1200m for fillies and mares, to be run on Friday 5 January.
They have also sponsored Grade 3 Politician Stakes for the last two years.
Now, due to the ever-increasing international allure of the event, Cartier have chosen to increase their exposure in 2018 by taking over the sponsorship of the R1-million Grade 1 race which will now be called the Cartier Paddock Stakes. The race is arguably the strongest race for fillies and mares in South Africa.
Maine Chance Farms kindly agreed to transfer the sponsorship of the race and remain committed to supporting the racing industry in South Africa. L’Ormarins thanked Maine Chance Farms for their long-standing partnership in the event.
The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Racing Festival is the only event sponsored by Cartier in Africa and will take place on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 January 2018. Tickets go on sale for this exclusive social occasion on Thursday 16 November 2017 with prices starting at R350 for Style Lounge tickets and ranging up to R1,500 for the Kenilworth Jazz Room.
