Prepared for a bit of egg today, decided to give a pa a go and will justify afterwards.

Scratchings in my opinion does make it tricky. On the classic track I usually look for horses suited to the inside track at turf.
Man eater I think should definitely be in the first three as it's dangers have tricky draws. If I had to look for one runner who could improve I'd go with Linger Longer who should appreciate more ground just like man eater.
R4 The thing that worries me about the fav Yakeen (who I backed on debut) is that he took a while to get going last time and I am not sure whether this track could suit him. So I'm preparing for the egg and to watch Yakeen win by 5 but il be loading up here. A few decent handicappers at big prices who I feel may be under rated.
R5 Hidden agenda will be in the first four of the five horse field and does seem to enjoy the bend. Trainer trying to get him into bigger races so would need to run another good one here.
R6 I've been impressed with Sheetweavers come back runs and out of some decent formlines I would almost make him a banker but for value I'm including the dropping in class Hieronymus. Again prepared for Egg but before the scratching I didn't have Arabian world in my first three.
R7 Mujaafy made appeal but is now scratched so now I make it between Fidelio and Cathedral county. F gets the jock back who formed a lethal partnership with him that saw his rating go as high as the 90's. Now back to a competitive mark with the jock who's won 4 times aboard I make a decent value bet.
R8 If the egg doesn't come earlier in the card then the pa will be paying something by this stage and thus I want all bases covered. Even if the egg does come, then we could get a result here. Hence I've thrown in a few runners. My preference is for Hunting owl and Alex the great if not needing it after gelding could feature.
Anyway let's see, play well.

Airtaxi in the last looks like he prefers the highveld. Has a good draw which is very important with the start being halfway around the bend. If he jumps and can be well placed he will be a massive runner.
All the best to the clanners involved with this one. Hope to see you lead him in today.
Paul Peters only has 4 runners today and in the form the yard is in really wouldn't be surprised if he had big runs from all his runners. Woodland Sage looks the one with the least chance. Will do a patent on his other 3 runners.

As CL and TL both come from the van Vuuren stable you would expect Lerena to have the pick so that bit of info could be double edged so to speak but backing jockeys is a hazardous pasttime
mydada, R 8 don't worry about the van Vuuren CL & TL ( CL scratched now ) go for his 3rd runner AIRTAXI hehehegreat run last time !

Hi Shrek - I would not leave this out - Stable Change - been watching him for months - has been unlucky a few times - dropped to 52 - has done well this course

Greetings Clanners. Yet another meetino threatened by bad weather and thunder storm in spots. I think if they do race the value has to lie with middle path and eight cities in the first. middle path ran second to ya keen who is priced up favourite in race 4 after a convincing debut win. eight cities ran second to useful darkest hour. priced up 6/1 and 14/1 respectively. I like a bit of the 10/1 on offer with striker in race 5. Could be a real Fortune Fella today jockey strike and pacifiers on.

Not far from the Vaal and the weather looks great. The forecast looks very good as well. Don't think there will be any problem getting through the meeting today.

A return to the 'Classic' track .... not sure how that will pan out, but imo the draw will be far less important than Turffontein Inside, as we have a very long straight - so pace of the race probably more important than the draw
R1: Looks a 3 horse contest, and at the odds, I think Middle Path looks nice value; imo has Go Green to beat, but that one is very short in the betting; MP can also give a clue as to what to expect from Yakeen in the 4th; Bosphorus to complete the trifecta while Kevin KO Kid could improve over this distance
R2: Competitive fillies and mares handicap where many have chances - need to load up in the BP and even the PA imo - pace should be on with Beautiful Shea and Perfect Order - could suit the outsider in the party Russian Friend
R3: Another 3 horse contest; pace could be an issue, so I'd rather go with all 3 in the exotics
R4: Could be the race that decides the fate of many in the exotics; either Yakeen is good enough, or he is not, in which case it becomes wide open; I fancied Sabre Dance last time, but he got bumped a bit in the closing stages, his close-up 3rd behind Streetwear (finishing in front of Pachuco) seems to suggest that the 1700 will not be an issue, so he would be at the top of my list to give the favorite a run - pity that JP will not be taking the ride though; stable mate Defy Gravity another that needs to be considered with Gavin taking the ride and Skynight seems very good value imo at 20s
R5: Very small field now and the master of pace could well go start to finish with Amsterdam; would be foolish to ignore Like a Panther and Hidden Agenda though, and while Silver Peg does not seem to see out 2000, he could surprise off a slow pace; to be safe I will include all 4 in the P6
R6: Sheet Weaver looks cherry ripe; has to beat Arabian World imo, but that one was given 8 points for his last win, so may find it tough to repeat; Samar probably requires a strong pace, which could be a problem as there does not seem to be any real front runners here, despite a biggish field
R7: Does not appear to be too much between Cathedral County, Magic and Fidelio on recent meetings with Alpine Glacier not far behind; I think they will go very fast here courtesy of Bono, Great Shaka and Valero, so the horse with the best finish will probably get up if the jock can time it right
R8: Extremely tough race to close; we are hoping for a good effort from Airtaxi, and the word is that he is very well and a big run is expected - I don't think too much should be made of the fact the Gavin is on the other one, probably more a case of 'stick to what worked'; personally I think Torio Lake has a lot to do as his maiden win was against a weak looking bunch and he has to give us 2 kgs; plenty of dangers though headed imo by Quatro, who does seem slightly better off with Cannes and Wottahottie; then there is Just a Gigolo, who has run only once over 1200 in 35 tries, but does seem to have found a lot of speed with the aid of blinkers; none of the others bar perhaps Flying Fool can safely be ignored.
Enjoy

Nice competitive racing today and well previewed by colin d and frodo as normal..i wouldnt ignore woody capes chances as his last 2 runs with blinkers have seen much improved eforts and he was under huge sufferance at the weights and ran well above his current rating ,,today he isnt under sufferance but meets a competitive lot but if running to his last 2 ratings should be right there ..in the third race both goede hope and rite of spring will be much better over this distance as well as maneater however the binda yard been a bit off the boil lately..keen to see how the track runs more than anything

Race 1: Middle Path could improve over the slightly longer trip. Eight Cities can have a say at this 1200m with Wrogemann up. Bosphorous should improve on debut. Go Green could show further improvement. Short and Sweet would look to prefer the mile or more. I think they should have worked out Eight Cities now and can definitely win this, should benefit with Wrogemann up. Short prices about Bosphorous or Go Green could be a concern. - but worth a shot if enough value.
Race 2: Beautiiful Shay looks very well, and should be a force at the weights.
Race 3: Angelic, Goede Hoop and Man Eater need to show some improvement – Man Eater looks bred for sprints. If there is no improvement from any of them, then Generoso (Currently shows no recent form) or Purdey could have a say.
Race 4: Aquaboy with Woodland Sage the biggest danger if he stays the trip.
Race 5: A competitve race – but might prove difficult to oppose Like A Panther at this weight. Brave Nomad a chance if staying with the distance., Oro Negroo could also be in with a shout.
Race 6: Samar should be a big runner here. Lotus Elan a chance , along with Stavinsky (Might Like Further) and Arabian World.
Race 7: Bono should prove to be quite a useful sprinter.
Once again no standouts – so revert to smaller interest bets, with an eye on value.
Could Short and Sweet be Jonkers first winner today?
