If anyone out there can explain how trainers decide which jockeys are going to ride their horses, it will be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking at Know The Ropes in the 8th, whom I believe has a fair chance of making it 3 from 3, however, I find it odd that the trainer is using the services of a "visiting" jockey when both the jockeys who have ridden the horse to victory are both riding on the day.

Please don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the young man and I'm sure Dillon is plying his trade and wants to make a living like we all do. The other thing, I do stand by the philosophy that if the horse is right, it doesn't matter who rides it, it should win.

Just curious and not serious.

Donovan Dillon was riding in Mauritius and is back about a month in Cape Town. Prior to that he was riding in the Cape mostly for Ramsden.

Getting back to my pick on the card, R8, Know The Ropes (33/10 out to 4/1).

I see there has been solid support for Emerald Gal (13/2 into 3/1). It's fair to say that her MR has been achieved over 1200m, has had one attempt at 1600m and finished 6th, 7.00 lengths off from a wide draw. Has a decent draw and appears to have been running on last time out over 1200m. Breeding suggests she should get the extra comfortably, but not for me.

Know The Ropes to me is likely to improve further. Since being fitted with blinkers, she is a different proposition, and not being thrown in the deep end again by taking on a higher merit rated division than her last outing. I think they placing her correctly. The draw is a bit of a concern, but if overcoming that hurdle from the jump, she'll be the one they all have to beat.

Fancy the double with The Secret Is Out in the 2nd. She is well in under the race conditions and whilst not racing fit, her class may pull her through.

know the ropes has the fitness on her side but bon bon loves Durbanville but probably not 100% ready but i will still take the 14s on offer.Ignore her last 3 runs senior cape jocks gave her shocking rides. If you take her run to lady of the house and was interfered with as well that run.I make sunshine lady a danger and will be playing swingers.Good luck to those on know the ropes.

Just had a good look it and for me the odds on the Marcus runner Wicked Kiss represents the value in the race.Lyle rides and going through her form she must rate as your danger.Has a poor draw and excuses lto but she certainly appears better then the mark she races off tomorrow! Also her times for runs on 08/15 and 09/13 and one other suggest she has the measure of the majority. She is 9-2-1 over tomorrows trip and the 5/2 on offer to place looks attractive
