Greyville Saturday June 10 tips and race previews by Andrew Harrison…

Race 1
Preview: Open race. LIGHT ON HER TOES was not too far back in a Gr1 feature last time out but the form of her maiden win has worked out well. ROCKIN RUSSIAN won well on debut in soft ground. Stable rider is aboard and could be the pick of Sean Tarry’s pair. MERYL won well at second time of asking after showing up well on debut behind Light On Her Toes. SEQUINED made a promising local debut. She should prefer this trip. (Andrew Harrison: 3-7-5-14).

Race 2
Preview: Tricky race. MONKS HOOD was a most impressive winner on debut and looks to be something special. PLAY THE NIGHT disappointed on debut but made marked improvement next time out to win well. He’s drawn well and can feature. CAPTAIN’S CHARM has shown up well in two local outings. He can go one better this time around. SEA KING has won over the distance and has shown up well in both starts. He should come on even more from his last effort. (Andrew Harrison: 6-7-3-9).

Race 3
Preview: PURPLE TRACTOR has shown up well in both local starts. The form of his last race has worked out well although he has drawn wide in his first effort around a turn. SERGEANT HARDY was a touch disappointing in the Tsogo Sun Sprint but was a close-up second prior to that. He has a big weight but can feature. ROMI’S BOY has come good at recent outings on the Highveld. He does take on stronger here but appears to be on the up. PILLAR OF HERCULES took his chances on the Highveld and was not far back in useful company. He has a plum draw here and is one to watch in another difficult race. (Andrew Harrison: 4-1-2-5)

Race 4
Preview: DAWN CALLING has some good form in useful company over course and distance but has lacked finish. He tries blinkers here and can improve. LOUISIANA has been in good form over further. Her last win was on this course and she rates a strong chance. LALA has a big weight but never runs a bad race and should be in the mix. QING seems better than her recent form suggests. She has a good draw and can do better over this shorter trip. (Andrew Harrison: 3-7-2-4)

Race 5
Preview: Top class line-up where one can make a case for almost the entire field. However, many will be prepping for the Garden Province Stakes and the Vodacom Durban July next month. JUST SENSUAL ran a tremendous race behind top-class sprinter Carry On Alice in the SA Fillies Sprint and will be better suited to this trip. NIGHTINGALE is a July entry and just needed her last outing. She will be much better suited to this trip. On current form July entry SILVER MOUNTAIN looks held by both Just Sensual and Nightingale but she does have the best of the draw and Piere Strydom is in mustard form of late. ANNA PAVLOVA is back over her preferred trip after trying further at her last two and has a handy weight. (Andrew Harrison: 4-1-2-14).

Race 6
Preview: BLACK ARTHUR is among the shorter priced horses in the ante-post market for the Vodacom Durban July but will need a big showing here if he is to be assured of a place in the field for the big race as he has not won for over a year. Stable companion ELUSIVE SILVA started favourite for the Betting World 1900 but was caught flat-footed in the finish. That was in soft ground and he can do better here. NEBULA won well in a Pinnacle Stakes on the poly last start. He is smart and rates a strong chance. CROWD PLEASER easily had the measure of Edict Of Nantes on the poly last start and that form has been franked. He comes in with a light weight, the switch back to turf the only question mark. (Andrew Harrison: 5-9-4-1)

Race 7
Preview: MARINARESCO got up late to win the Drill Hall over 1400m and will prefer this long trip. He may now be looking for further but does well on this course. CAPTAIN AMERICA is a top class miler and should be right there. SARATOGA DANCER always seems to be under the radar but has tremendous form. From a decent draw he must have a strong chance. NEW PREDATOR and VICTORIOUS JAY have both drawn very wide but were close-up behind Marinaresco last time out and must rate good chances on that form. JANOOBI is a strong front runner but also has a wide draw to contend with while TRIP TO HEAVEN has strong sprint form but passed the line first last year and is capable of surprising again. (Andrew Harrison: 4-2-12-8).

Race 8
Preview: Duncan Howells holds a strong hand here with three runners all in with chances. Best of them may be WILD WICKET who won a smart race last time albeit narrowly. However, CHICAGO BEAT is better off at the weights here and was a trifle unlucky behind Wild Wicket. SUMMER SKY raced in the Daisy Guineas last time out and was not disgraced. He has improved in blinkers and should be thereabouts. CUTTING EDGE has a difficult draw but has run some smart races against stronger and should be thereabouts. Not an easy race. (Andrew Harrison: 4-2-6-1).

Race 9
Preview: Another wide open affair. There should not be much between WARFARER and NIGHT CIRCUS with a head separating when last they met. Warfarer may prove slightly better on the turf. ROMAN EMPEROR steps up to what may prove a more suitable trip and has a handy galloping weight. NEW FORT has a difficult draw to overcome but is in good form and can feature prominently. (Andrew Harrison: 1-2-5-8).

Race 10
Preview: Another difficult handicap. MISS VARLICIOUS has been battling against strong fields of late. She has a fair weight here but could prove a touch too good. ROCKY VALLEY has his third run after a break. He found some of his best form last time out and can feature again. ROY’S AIR FORCE may just have found his last start too far. He has good form over this trip and rates a strong chance if judged on his penultimate start. FIRE THE ROCKET has been struggling under big weights and now with only 52kg to shoulder he should be competitive. (Andrew Harrison: 1-2-6-10)

Personally think Anthony Delpech will have a good day at Greyville:

Race 3 - Sergeant Hardy
Race 4 - Difficult, plenty with chances, my fancy Qing from Dawn Calling
Race 5 - Nightingale
Race 6 - Black Arthur / Elusive Silva
Race 7 - Trip to Heaven from Bulleting Home
Race 8 - Wide Open race, Captains Moll / Heptagon
Race 9 - Roy will win :-), include Roman Emperor

Happy punting everyone

If Liege wins tomorrow and all other things remain the same, then, yes, Elusive Silva will need to win to qualify. Elusive Silva is my only July horse at 33/1. Thats why I'm monitoring too :)
