Admiral Kitten will be the first son of champion US turf sire Kitten’s Joy to stand in South Africa. He won the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes and finished second in the Hollywood Derby and Jamaica Handicap for owner-breeders Ken and Sarah Ramsey.

The seven-year-old is out of the winning Grand Slam mare Reachinforthestars and is related to South African champion sire Fort Wood. Admiral Kitten was originally retired to stand at Stroud’s Lane Farm in Florida in 2016.

Said Gordon: “We are extremely proud to have the first son of champion sire Kitten’s Joy in South Africa. Like father like son, they both won the Gr1 Secretariat Stakes. The Kitten’s Joys have a liking for the turf and this makes Admiral Kitten an ideal prospect for SA.”

CHRIS Gerber and Dr Bennie van der Merwe’s up-and-coming Moutonshoek Stud in the Western Cape will be welcoming two top-level winners to its stallion roster for the coming southern-hemisphere breeding season – The United States and Admiral Kitten.

The United States, a seven-year-old son of Galileo, was originally trained by Aidan O’Brien, for whom he won the Group 3 Enterprise Stakes at three.

He was later sold to race for Robert Hickmott in Australia, where his finest hour came with victory in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes, in which he beat the likes of Criterion and Mongolian Khan. He also notched two Group 2 successes in Australia – the Moonee Valley Gold Cup and the Crystal Mile.

The United States is a brother to Group 3 winner and 1,000 Guineas hopeful Hydrangea and a half-brother to high-class two-year-old and sprinter Fire Lily.

Moutonshoek’s spokesman Colin Gordon commented: “The United States is a Group 1 winning son of the World’s greatest sire, Galileo. That speaks for itself. He raced from 2 to 7 and comes here straight off the track. He won from 1400 to 2500 and is out of a brilliantly fast female line.”

The United States’ dam, the Pivotal mare Beauty Is Truth, is a Group 2-winning sprinter and she hails from the family of Breeders’ Cup Mile hero Last Tycoon and Classic winners Tie Black and Valentine Waltz.

Not hyping up Admirals Kitten as in my opinion is one of the weaker Kittens Joy offspring. Over the years Kittens Joy has been the leading turf site in North America and I have always been posting we should get some of his foals to race here. Today Roaring Lion's win has put a huge smile on my face. Go boy!

......heard on a background sound track of a clip promoting Noble Tune .....a commentary of Noble Tune beating Admiral Kitten.... .....but nothing wrong with his ped though other than he is carrying MrP in his dam and thus spoiling his potential to breed to a plethora of mares carrying Mr P too but not enough BR to balance the peds......This stud seems to enjoy bringing many American bred stallions rich in Mr P & Roberto and their mare band is also quite strong with plenty Al Mufti Roberto.....for this son of Kittens Joy I like to see mares with classic English lines with Darshaan Mill Reef Sharpen Up or Habitat which are SW affinities....on the converse one can introduce Danzig and/or BadgerLand.....;)

Thank you Muthiman for your input. Your knowledge is impressively good as always.

What's your thoughts on Mukhadram of Shadwell Stud. He has had a reasonable start for a freshman sire.

......made some nice tom on this one when he was racing....often arrived at a nice price .......Coral Eclipse win was very tasty.....here this son of Shamadal is going to need Danzig/Green Desert or Danehill to complete a nice ped picture.....;)

.....I see that Admiral Kitten has been moved to the Karoo as he had to make way for other stallions at Moutonshoek....I think the move may be in his favor as now he has some more suitable mares in that region.....;)

Over the years I have been harping to get Kittens Joy progeny to race in South Africa although his son Admirals Kitten is standing in South Africa.Lets hope Courageous Cat can go on from today to better things.

Just some additional notes on Courageous Cat. The grandam is Ladue. Ladue produced Lucifers Stone who was a Grade 1 winner by Horse Chestnut. Will check what other information I can come across.
