The National Yearling Sales have come and gone with the usual handful of buyers suffering from brain farts and paying far too much money for their purchases.
Sales topping yearlings have a long and proud record of failure. Let's look at the last couple of sales toppers from this sale :
2017 : Goddess Var (R5m) : If the buyer of this yearling does not yet have buyers remorse then he/she should. It would be quite optimistic to expect a Var to get much beyond 1600m so one wonders...... Possibly the best bet would be to spend a couple of million more & ship the filly off to Frankel for a service. They could name the offspring : God Save Me, Please.
2016 : Lara Yara (R2,5m) : Can't find a racing record so possibly still to debut?
2015 : Playboy Prince (R1,2m) : Ditto. But at least the price wasn't totally insane.
2014 : Nebula (R3,75m) : 14 runs. 3 wins. Ouch.
2013 : Trees Of Green (R3,6m) : 12 runs. 2 wins. Ouch.
2012 : Stratocruiser (R1,7m) : 38 runs. 5 wins.

Always enjoy Garricks's posts. But still, what is the point of this?
Some people have yachts or watches or cars that cost 10x or more than average. Clearly someone who spends 3 million on a race horse is not down to their last 20 million. Maybe your advice on how they should spend is missing the mark?
