Tiger Woods

I know this is a racing forum but has there ever been a sportsman who ALWAYS delivers when it counts no matter how badly he's playing?

Tiger has redefined the term champion and frankly theres not a sportsman in the world to touch him.

Tiger was 8-1 on the last hole and £17m was traded on Betfair for the US Open, im sure a few punters will be seeing their cardiologists this week!

He is the greatest athlete of our era. Period. The only other American that comes close is Michael Jordan.

He has that air of brilliance about him, I have never seen anyone produce the goods under pressure with such regularity. Make no question his knee is hurting but like the champ he is he will get the job done tonight!

There is one man who could compete with Tiger for best athlete of the era - Jehangir Kahn the squash player. Over a five year period he went 555 matches unbeaten and won the premier tournament of the time, the British Open, 10 x in a row + the world open 6 x.

Good call on the squash player Tipster, how about ace bicycle rider Lance Armstrong and even Phil "the power" Taylor who throws a very accurate arrow.

If anybody doubted the pain Tiger was in he is out for the season www.sportingweb.co.za/sportingweb/view/s...2?oid=6479&sn=Detail dealing a knock out blow to my bets that would have arrived if he won 2 or more Majors this year.

At least the other players have a chance now. It must be pretty demoralising for them with Tiger beating them all with 1 leg!

Im convinced if Ernie had putted half decently he would have won. I havent seen him hit so many quality shots in a long time and if he can somehow sort his mind and putter out he is definately one to follow...

Agree that it was Ernies best performance in a good while. He must have missed 5 or 6 withing 12 feet on Sunday. For some reason he just doesn't seem able to get it all together though. I see he is favourite for the Open

Els will never win another major - mentally he has lost focus.

Tiger Woods was faking knee injury, claims Retief Goosen
Jun 18 2008

RETIEF GOOSEN last night accused Tiger Woods of faking injury on his way to victory at Torrey Pines.

Two-time winner Goosen was the last player to take a US Open in a play-off when he beat American Mark Brooks in 2001 at Southern Hills in Oklahoma.

And the South African, who tied for 14th place this time, insists the world No.1's injured knee only seemed to trouble him when he played a bad shot.

Goosen said: "When Tiger went down on his knees and shouted after making those putts his knee didn't seem sore.

"Only when he hit a bad shot did it look painful. If he was really injured he wouldn't have played."

Meanwhile, Woods has denied reports he was set to pull out of the event after the second round.

He said: "The knee has been sore for a while but I was never going to quit.

"Sport isn't kind to the body but there are no excuses - you just go play."

Why do South Africans always insist on getting on the wrong side of Woods?
