How to get the people to go Racing
8 years 4 months ago
Our local paper in PE is the Herald and the racing page is provided by Phumelela on a daily basis.
If there are any errors the paper makes a proviso that it is nothing to do with them but refer you to Phumelela.
Today,Fri 3rd Feb there is an article about a recent meeting of the Asia Afica Tote Assoc.held at Kenilworth.
The main point of concern raised appeared to be how to get people of between 18 and 34 to go Racing.
Executives of Phumelela attended and voiced opinions, concerns etc.
What I can't understand is if a particular category of people have been, targeted ,why were there no representatives of that group at the meeting!!
Surely their opinions or thoughts would have been more important,if their presence at Racetracks is a major issue.

8 years 4 months agoThis is the philosphy of the whole racing industry from beginning to end as the majority are to shit scared to be shown up by outsiders who are trying to improve the game for one and all..they rather have these endless indabas amongst themselves achieving sweet fuck all and making sure their jobs are safeFarawaysaint wrote: Our local paper in PE is the Herald and the racing page is provided by Phumelela on a daily basis.

Surely we must be telling people NOT to go racing as we all think its a con (well judging by the thousands of comments just on ABC alone over the years) tells us that jockeys trainers stewards the tote the bookies are all useless. Horses that race are unprepared and unfit, tracks are unfit to race on etc etc etc. Why on earth would anyone want to introduce another person to this?

to answer the thread question - LIE TO THE PEOPLE-
"That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Money for nothin' and chicks for free
Now that ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Lemme tell ya them guys ain't dumb"
The reality is just like skin mags that were hidden on a special shelf in the local cafe years ago have disappeared (replaced by online porn) .. the computaform and other formguides have followed suite. People just don't want or need the product, Sports Betting and Numbers rule and that's a fact.

One of the problems is the hobs and nobs with the money complain
They don't like change!
When the event people try to get youngsters to the track with music, " it's too loud"
When sponsors bring busses of clients and create a buzz " it cheapened the day"

well they do call it the Sport of Kings. Can you imagine the Queen at Royal Ascot in her box and 20 yards away you have Kings of Leon singing Your sex is on fire?

I think there's too much racing and Monday to Friday meetings are generally to cater for the lower division class of horse. Does one really want to go and watch a MR 68 or middle to late 70's handicap? The other point, one can watch from the comfort of their home.
Compare that to going on July, Summer Cup or Met days, there are "crowd pullers" on show. People fly in from other provinces not because they own a horse running on the day, that excitement of witnessing good horse flesh competing against each other.
Having said that, surely the same problem exists overseas - you don't see masses at a normal midweek meeting unless it's a festival?

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.
