Jack Milner suggests that possibly Legal Eagle
8 years 4 months ago
Didn`t stay the 2450 Derby trip he won..
Hogwash!!!
I remember the race like yesterday, it was on very soft going, Ertijaal and Deputy Jud went for home a long way out and Legal Eagle out stayed them
I think Jack is getting his Derby`s mixed up!

E Fort 155.63
Ravishing 156.82
k Gmbit 157.11
Irish Flame 155.97
Pmodoro 155.69
Abashiri 154.02
LE 154.59
Just a few times for recent winners.... This horse has no problem with 2000m ....
The reason many potential stayers don't go for marathon trips is more to do with stakes and Graded races than ability. Most big graded stakes races are from a Mile to 2200m that's why sometimes the graded stayers races have such poor entries... If you have a horse that could win or place in a 5Bar race over 2000m why will you go for a 3200m that is maybe 1 Bar?

He never blatantly said he doesn`t stay, but to even suggest it, means he has doubts about him getting the trip
from the article
The issue of the distance has been discussed and Tarry points out his charge won the SA Derby over 2450m. The facts are, however, that many Derby winners are not stayers. Elusive Fort won it but later in his career set the record for 1300m at Newmarket. But Legal Eagle did win last year’s Premier’s Champion Challenge over 2000m at Turffontein and the distance should not be too much of a concern.

Has won 2 of 3 starts over 2000m 2nd only when beaten by Smart Call... Has won 2450m as a 3yr old so the only problem with the distance is no problem!!! trouble in the 2200m JULY and still less than 3 behind the winner...

....there are several other pundits that are also indicating that a fast run Met and a bit of give in the ground will undo LE...

He stays 2000m fine. Its possible the way he runs that being too handy off a fast pace would play into the hands of a less handy, burst of speed horse who had cover ,but that doesn't make him not stay.

Lol what? I don't have a single cent on Legal Eagle and I'm pretty sure he'll stay 2200 easily let alone 2000m.

All you have to do is watch him outstaying one of the better Derby fields in recent memory (over 2450 in soft)

Drdom is spot on . Marcus always is handy and legal eagle would be even better if given a bit more of a chance. Only reason smart call beat him was he was too handy went too soon and had nothing left. I agree he stays 12 easily
