History will be made at Kenilworth’s Sun Met meeting in Cape Town on Saturday when punters will have the opportunity to participate in two Pick 6 bets.
The first will run, as normal, from Race 4 to Race 9. A carryover of R1.5 million has already been announced and the pool is likely to reach R7 million.
The second Pick 6 starts in Race 8 and will run through to Race 13. A carryover of R500,000 was announced on Monday and the pool is forecast to reach R2.2 million.
“I believe this is the best Met card ever assembled and for that reason we have decided to introduce a double Pick 6.
“We are always looking to introduce innovative betting concepts for the public and I believe having two Pick 6s on a card is an exciting prospect and will add another dimension to the day,” said Vee Moodley, Executive Director: Sports Betting for Phumelela.
“With 13 races run at a single meeting for the first time the decision to have two Pick 6 bets looks an obvious option.
“It also gives bettors the chance to be involved in Exotic bets from the start of the meeting to the finish.”
The other very popular bet on the day is the Quartet and on the Sun Met, which is Race 9 on the card, the pool will kick off with a carryover of R600,000 and is likely to rise to R5 million.
There are two other Quartet carryovers on the day. Race 7, which is the tricky Grade 1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes over 1600m, will start with a carryover of R100,000 and is expected to reach R700,000 while Race 13 will have an extra R50,000 in the pool which is expected to reach R450,000.
There will also be two Jackpots, the first running from Race 5 to Race 8 and the second from Race 9 to Race 12. Jackpot 2 will be boosted by a R100,000 carryover with the pool reaching around R1 million.
The BiPot kicks off in Race 2 and a R50,000 carryover is likely to produce a pool of R500,000.

It would be interesting to establish whether any of the horses that have shortened in the market are as a result of "real" money or as a result of bookmaker adjustments?

Examples that spring to mind are :-

Zud West (16/1 into 7/1)
Sergeant Hardy (28/10 - 17/10)
William Longsword (28/10 - 12/10)
Lady Of The House (12/1 - 6/1)
Horizon (15/10 - 11/10)
Ovidio (5/1 - 15/10)
Helderberg Blue (12/1 - 6/1)

I may have missed a couple.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Two selections per day:

Race 1, a bread n butter handicap: #8 ZUD WES; despite winning four races for nearly a quarter of a million rand he still has to repay half the VAT; although he runs in other colours he is still co-owned by the Jooste's so not sure why Superman is not the jock particularly when he is not carded to ride this race; has been backed-in by some astute ABC clansmen from 16's to 7/1.

Race 2, Princess Charlene of Monaco Juvenile stakes (will she be there?), an unusual race where one young boy will have the privilege of being in the company of thirteen girls: #3 NAMIBIA; according to Winning Form she won her only start impressively despite running green; Sporting Post has her highest on their Ability Ratings; although Fourie has jumped off to ride a seemingly stable elect, another hot jock Gavin Lerena rides.

Excellent value for me can be found in Race 7 with Real Princess, fancied runners have all drawn wide whilst this one is well drawn at 5. Off the boil in her last two runs yet this 5YO mare is highest rated and according to my calculations will go close to winning this race.

Currently at 16/1 this is my best value bet for the day ;)

My freak of nature bet.... lol. Generallisimo. Off 441 days gelded in Dec 2015. Taken down to the Cape, has his 1st run in the Cape Flying Championship.... Delpech gets the ride when he could have taken another runner... Drier won't take a chance on the biggest day with a runner he doesn't think much of and also aquire the services of Delpech for nothing. I'll rove this horse for qt's and have R100 ew on him...

I fancied her in the last two runs and came away feeling that she didn't stay...my feeling is that she'll need the cape crawl to have any sort of a chance...
