Turffontein Flys and the Grooms!!!

Just thaught I had to share this,I've been stopping at the Tab behind the turffontein racecourse as it is convenient for me on my way to work for the last 3 months,In November they've broken in stolen about 8 Tvs a few days later put up 2/3 temporary Tvs which looked like they where ready to fall off the brackets, a week later another "break in"the balance of the Tvs also taken,Up until yesterday we watching off 25' monitors at least, not sure if they haven't made enough to replace them yet?I was really disgusted with the health conditions there and actually realized why I ended up at the doctor on Monday, all the grooms come from the racecourse after work with there dirty gum boots, smell like crap, half I don't think have showered in weeks, and then they bring a million flys with them which I'm sure have some thing they carrying,Spoke to the Tab Manager about getting a few fly blue light machines and maybe a pest control company out regularly, but guess what the answer was,we don't have money for that ,Welcome to Africa.

Price paid for convenience ... where else can the grooms go to have a bet. Saying that they should upgrade the outlet as it is the face of Turffontein.

Agreed Len, but strictly they should implement the health rules on grooms 1st and 2nd they should dig into the pockets and try get rid of the flys,Make sure they shower after work in the mornings and put a few more health measures into place.Anyway as always the Punter has no say, once again.

I will say that this tote was in very good shape when last I visited(two years ago) - obviously crime has taken place. My criticism is that the tellers were very dismissive and curt with punters( i was not affected but I watched their behaviour with other punters). My local tote in Benoni is not near as fancy as this tote is/was but the tellers there are extremely friendly people and treat all players with respect.

Maybe people should ask the question if the grooms have the facilities to have a hot shower whenever they need to ? . As for the tote outlet itself it's just another example of how little P care about there punters and the facilities and staff that they employ. Customer service would seem to be a swear word with P. They really have no clue.

If the tote pools were National, without being owned by a monopoly,Competition amongst the distributors would raise the bar!

Where do you punt these days Rob ? And yes competition would work for sure. Just look at how many punters prefer the open bet for that very reason.

99% from home ,but the odd social day at the Bullring in Northcliff.

There is no doubt that all "pool betting " should be in a tote ,but not in a tote that is in badly managed greedy hands.
Stakes would almost double overnight and takeouts could reduce, making tote bets more value and therefore competitive!
The reason the open bets exists is that "P" and its legal team were unable to present a case that convinced the judge that pool bets (that can vary every 10 sec) are not a fixed odds product!!!!.....you figure!
