I see the plan is to retire the William horse after one more run , seems a bit premature?

William Longsword grandam is, Dancing Flower, who is the dam of the ill-fated sire Victory Moon. This is from the family of Fovs Flower and Garden Verse who produced Imbongi.

That maybe the reason...

After he wins that CTS race on Met Day he'll have done all a 3yo can do up to that point. No need to go to the durban season.

That family may be impressive for the local racing scene but, imo, not for the world.

Unfortunately still learning about which matings works best with sires and dams.

On another note, I do hope Red Ray gets retired. Its supposed to be at stud already. Really loved its dam Nacarat and its grandam Tawny Red.

Agree. the record for Nacarat and Tawny Reds winners/runners is excellent and a whole host of them Black type.
Willams pedigree is also very good and his Guineas win gives him stud cred. Its is a local pedigree though so you wouldn't think the value in sending him to stud as a 3yo exits in this country.
Still, not about money in this case, whereas a UK guineas winner gets shuffled off while they make a fortune without tarnishing a reputation by picking up a few losses.

Racing. It's a Rush: PRESS RELEASE

Subject: WILLIAM LONGSWORD RULES IN GRAND PARADE CAPE GUINEAS

Date: 20 DECEMBER, 2016

For the connections of William Longsword it was a case of Christmas arriving early as the colt produced a great run under jockey MJ Byleveld to claim this season’s edition of the Grand Parade Cape Guineas at Kenilworth on the weekend.

Victory meant that the good looking three-year-old replicated the achievement of his sire Captain Al, a winner of this Grade One Contest some 16 years ago, and provided a fourth success for trainer Vaughn Marshall.

It also proved to be a Guineas double for Mayfair Speculators given that the famous silks had been carried to victory by Just Sensual in the fillies’ equivalent earlier this month.

The popular Vineyard Oval Christmas Market resulted in a number of new faces making their way to the racecourse as they did some last minute shopping for the festive season and indulged from a selection of food stalls. The children were kept busy with the entertainment proving to be a hit while the arrival of Santa Clause on the racetrack definitely drummed up some excitement as he handed out gifts.

Adding to the feeling of the day was the fact that the guests enjoying the afternoon from the comfort of the Peninsula Room were able to raise a mammoth R500 000 for the Dr Hassen Adams Foundation.

The proceeds will be used as part of the ongoing endeavour to enrich the lives of the elderly, a project close to the heart of Grand Parade Investments chairman Hassen Adams. The funds will be used to upgrade a number of old-aged homes and frail care centres in the Western Cape.

With the Summer of Champions continuing to gain momentum the next big event to look forward to is the two-day L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Festival taking place on 6 and 7 January. Book your table for the event by calling 021 700 1600. .

Tickets for the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate are available through Computicket here bit.ly/2ehQHLR
