Race 6 - Newlands 7/2
I think the 7/2 was a great price. Now into 28/10. Very highly rated by the stable. Ignore his last run, came out 2-3 lengths slow and with that big field combined with the short straight you've got little chance. Previously he ran second to Whisky Baron who's now 2 from 2 this season and improving all the time. The Derby is the possible target for Newlands and if he's to get there, he needs to start winning some of these races. Long straight now will definitely suit.

R5, really believe The High Life is the right one in the race at the wrong price. The current price is still too big, most probably end up outright favourite.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Race1: Not an easy race with a number of first timers, and some inconsistent form. Shortlist is Zeb, Trojan Quest, Overdrive
Race 2: Border Control impossible to oppose but very short price. Elusive Freedom has been disappointing but has a place chance.
Race 3: We expect to win with Step Out.
Race 4: An open race. Weak preference for Shangri La from Royal Ginger and Hammies Game.
Race 5: I think that White Rose can turn the tables on The High Life. I think those two will fight it out, but this is a strong line-up.
Race 6: Newlands is weighted to beat William Longsword. Mutzi and Union Jack will test the younger horses.
Race 7: Field for exotics. Rebel's Idol my weak pick.
Race 8: Shall be Free has struggled since winning his maiden, but has a place chance. Glorious Goodwood, Copper Force and Top of the Rock make up the shortlist.

Race 1, not sure the top two in the betting deserve to be those prices considering their exposed form is iffy at best. I'm rowing in with Aim For Glory (10/1). Debut run over 1200m, was drawn fairly wide at Durbanville and appears to have reared, so that finishing margin of 3.70 lengths can be considered as fair. Next time went around the turn and appears to have had excuses for finishing 13.25 lengths off the winner. Both runs he raced relatively handy. Maybe the stable have decided to keep him to the sprints where he could hold his own. There doesn't appear to be any superstars in this field, so with some improvement, he wouldn't have to be too smart to win this.

A bit worried about Drier's form the lasr week in Cape Town.
Sail ran well but La Revere, Mogostar, Lloyd's Legacy (yes he burst through the pens but Anton pushed him hard to canter down) and Hack Green was also disappointing. I could be way off the mark.
Race 1 and Zeb was very disappointing last time. Hard to see why they backing him. Kapteinpandisleile was not too far off him and can improve.

Tomorrow will be The High Life's third run in the province, so hopefully whatever early problems the Drier stable have had are over. Just need Elusive Wave to set a decent pace, and The High Life should run them down.

I see trainers are now openly admitting horses are not running on their merit

Its been going on for ages!!!!
I keep hearing comments which are code for "we aren't/weren't AIMING to win this race"
I am trying to find the new rule in the regulations which allow horses to race as non-triers!!!!!
(The only "new rule" is the rule that attempts to prevent anybody pointing out on this,or any other, forum how ineffectual the NHA really are! )
