Bookmakers Just Do It Better!

After popping into well known bookmakers shop the other day for the first time in ages,I was absolutely gobsmacked at how the facility had been upgraded in comparison to the last time I was there.

This is a thriving environment where the PRIMARY FOCUS IS CATERING TO CUSTOMER NEEDS.

It's a smorgasbord of options. It's catering to a multitude of customer interests, and the facilitates it is providing include wifi, computer terminals to do research, air conditioning, beverages, food and it's clean.Brightly lit and well-signed.

How does this compare to what is on offer at the racecourses these days?I don't know,I don't go racing anymore, but maybe those that do can tell me.

What I can tell you is that the bookmaker environment which I was in felt safe, and was full of (what appeared to me at least) the next generation of punters who appear to be middle class in terms of income.

What is patently obvious is that the bookmaking concern is customer focused.WHOLELY!

I am middle aged.Racing managed to completely skip my generation.

I reckon they are about to skip another, but hey what do I know,I'm only a pesty customer who moans too much.

I think your bookmaking experience depends upon where you are. I recently moved to Cape Town and after being a local at my bookie in Joburg must say that I have been disappointed by the facilities on offer in the Cape. The focus is 100% on the soccer punters and to be fair, cannot blame the books for this as the punters number the 100's while there are less than 20 racing punters in an "average" facility. I find myself playing via my Joburg bookie and not spending the afternoon in the tatts as I have done for years.

I live in Cape Town too.

Jhb has always had better bookmaker facilities than CT.There is more money and the bookmakers cottoned on to upgrading their facilities a long time before it happened in CT.

Look,I'm certainly not saying I'd spend my days in this place I was at,I'm just saying it's a helluva lot better than when I was last there.

Racing will never attract the base of the population it previously had,but unless it does attract at least a fair % of the next generation there may not be a generation after. It just appears to me that it's not happening as management hasn't a clue how to look after customers and therefore will not maintain patronage to thrive.

Nothing special is being done/offered to attract new punters, which is very unfortunate
I've been to most Bookmaking and Tote outlets in Cape Town and theres nothing making me WANT to go back
