Bob, I would personally like the KZN owners to sort ourselves out first before people start thinking national or RA....
I also believe that KZN should have a Punters Association, maybe people like Pirates could start the drive and give input with his invaluable knowledge.

Re: Re:RE: KZN owners
8 years 9 months agoI agree with the punter bit but the owner needs the operator as much as they need the owner. However as I see it, the owner has the contract with the trainer and the trainer with the operator. So the trainer needs to up their game. Cutting subsidies will cut the poor trainers and the owners who can't really afford to race horses, and then the successful bunch will benefitTigershark wrote: The operator has no industry without the horse (owner) and punters. ..... that is the wheat & chaff, the operator is in charge of looking after those two key ingredients. ....

So by your rationale all owners can sell their horses and get out the game tomorrow and the Operator will be fine?

I am saying get rid of the leaches in the industry by getting rid of the subsidies. Maybe then stakes etc will improve

I do not need to read slowly.
Operators are managers of money that comes in from punters who punt on horses owners provide. Simply put, bush racing has not gone out of business and they don't have an operator.
Subsidies and other bad management decisions are not solved by more bad decisions and besides this for me is more about better management of key role players. I do not totally disagree with you but a measure of caution must be exercised when cutting and adjusting.
Operators have inherited facilities and infrastructures which essentially were paid for over time by punters and owners before I was born. When last was a new racing complex opened? When last did any operator ask for an owner or punters input?
Trainers are a vital cog and axis in the industry but when are they truly consulted to vote on decisions being made?
Essentially the stakes pool will not increase until betting pools increase and the levels will never increase to a point that horses pay for themselves. So what we need to do is make the experience of owning and punting better and stop expecting trainers to that for the operator who's directors earn more than trainers.

I think that Tigershark has hit the nail on the head.
I cannot speak for KZN. But in PGL country, it's quite simple. There is no such thing as a "subsidy".
Up here the fields are small at present due to the hard going.
So, when we "get rid of the leaches" , I was just wondering where we will get runners from and how turnovers will be effected....who will the big boys race against?
Anybody remember what happened to PE racing about 20 years ago when two big yards dominated with a few other Trainers pulling off a win here and there ? When most races had 10 out of 12 runners from those two yards ? What happened to their stakes ? What did turnovers do ?

Why must I attend a meeting to have something to say? Can I not voice an opinion, like many others on this forum.
Louis if I may ask, what do you pay per stable in rental and what do you receive for your buck?

Dilligaf
I am at a disadvantage as you know who I am but I don't know who DILLIGAF is...perhaps you would enlighten me ?
Anyway, more about me. My stable rental is not the issue. What is important is that I am no different to all other Trainers in that I do the following -.
1 ) I punt on the tote.
2 ) I bring Owners into Racing who then pay for racehorses which run in races, thus creating about R8Bn in turnover per annum. So, I am part of the Sales force of Racing.
3 ) Whether an Owner pays me or not, I am liable for all of my costs, including stable rentals.
4)I have been doing this for more than 25 years.
5) I provide jobs for 26 previously disadvantaged people. These people hail from the impoverished areas of Eastern Cape, some of whom grew up as goat herders, have never attended ONE days school and cannot speak any other language other than their native Xhosa. They love Racing and I am proud to work with them.
6) I own racehorses.
Please put me in my place by telling me what exactly your involvement in racing is.... And what you actually do for and in racing...

Re: KZN owners

Let me put this is plain English for the stoooopids out there:
I am about to send 2 horses to Dubai
NO bookmakers
NO RA
NO Phumelela
NO Tote
So you can cut the mustard anyway you want, in its BASIC model there is NO racing without owners. IN SA model punters are NEXT and very much needed (but on the tote) after that ……….well its self sufficient…..
Ill be cutting down in SA both personally and any other involvements with the view of less in SA and more in Dubai.
