Using Race Times

Does anybody use Race Times to study form, I find that the times over the sprints down the straight are more accurate than lets say 2000 meters

Whats you view on this?

horses in 1000 meter sprints go from the start (if i could put it that way) so you can compare with other 1000 meter sprints races as they are run much like one anouther and then a race like the Daily News went at a walk pace compared to another 2000 meter race where there was a good pace... Hence for me IMO i don't use times over the 2000 meters to study form but will use times over the 1000 meters and 1200 meters to get more of a view when analyzing a race over the sprints

Interesting the Daily News 2000 ran at a very slow pace 125.07s
The Woolhavington 2000 clocked 125.39s
Now what do you make of whose times?

Even with a slow pace Its my Turn could finish in front of Bela Bela

I tend to look at the whole picture, average times on the day and importantly 400m to finish time in a race with good pace. Guess work without sectional timing though.

IC, I agree that the shorter the distance the more you can use it. The great Syd Laird(before sectional timing) said a number of times to me" My boy, the only people who should worry about time are the people in jail"
