Craig says he will never apologize for putting himself first, and maybe that reads well. But what about the principle that what is right should be first, EVEN if it doesn't suit you every time?
Maybe campaign rather that horses who have run 4 lasts in a row are probably very unhappy about being tortured by one of your fellow trainers and on that principle should be eliminated, and not have it about your wallet?
You proudly won't apologize for quite a few sorry issues. Is that how we do it now, unapologetically unfair if you can't get ahead it's cool to hold the other guy back?
You should be sorry with all of us when a race isn't as interesting as it could be because everywhere else it's the best that wins, not the least weak. One day a kzn horse won't even get in the July and we will know why.

MT, I have never said put myself first. I said my owners and people who support KZN racing and I wont apologize for that. Do you think the small store selling goods to his personal loyal customers worries about Pick n pay?No he looks after his customers and that is right. Where it ties in that because you look after your owners properly it will cause KZN not to have a runner in the July, I havent a clue.

This post perfectly illustrates why many people won't post or call ABC a buch of idiots. Our arguments get toxic so often and then becomes an attack on those willing to debate issues.
Being willing to air is good as it puts opposing thoughts into perspective but always being right should be less important than it is for some.

your 100% correct LSU lets keep arguements civil , but racing has survived because people are passionate about the sport . Guys like you , the punter in the streets and Craig Eudey and his owners all need to have a say. If we get called idiots then so be it , just ask them to think how many of us idiots were at Greyville on July day, arranged to fill a box in Jozi, bought horses at the recent yearling sale ( one of them the sale topper) or lead in a July day winner , wrote articles for national papers the list goes on and on ..
Of course our members are going to be passionate we are involved at all parts of racing.

The posts are great and seldom toxic in itself but some responses go beyond a good heated debate.

LSU, how is it toxic to point out to someone (who has a long record of supporting what is essentially quota rules to "look after his owners"), that he is exactly like the parent who won't let their child lose fair and square but the don't see that the child they are preparing will inevitably see their arse?
As for idiots, LG and CE disagree on this issue too, neither are idiots. Craig's principle is to do his best for his owners and another view is that it may not also be good for the game. After all, the trainers' horse he is trying to exclude from races belongs to another owner..every one is trying their best and it's not clear that Craig's way is the best for the whole industry to me. Maybe KZN should think of itself as part of SA racing rather than Nexit and go for the freedom of horses to enter anywhere, regardless.
It didn't occur to me you would think all of this (or me) idiotic. Had I known, I would have given it a miss... perhaps that is also a reason people dont post?
By the way, what do you make of using "RAIDER" as the description in the rule book?
raider [noun]
means "thief"
bandit, pilferer, looter

When I sift through all the correspondence, this is what I read...........
1). KZN is trying to protect a very mediocre local racing fraternity. Competition from the Highveld and Cape is way too stiff for the KZN contingents.
2). KZN trainers continue to race very poor racehorses that do not justify continuing their career in this industry
3). Trainers from other regions see an opportunity for black type and prize money in KZN and would like to continue to compete in this arena.
I believe this is called free enterprise. Amazingly enough we aspire to compete in Dubai, UK and USA but want to curb competition in local racing that can only be good for SA racing.
To be quite honest (and perhaps a topic for another forum), "raiding" trainers and punters alike should boycott the next Champions season. The pathetic state of Greyville, and sub par state of Scottsville coupled with the "hanging" tote website on big race-days is enough to make die hard and passionate racegoers look elsewhere. The state of SA racing is shocking to say the least - too many issues in the recent past.

Hi MT
I apologise if you believe my observation has roots in what you posted.
For starters your thread didn't feature in my conclusion so have no idea why you are putting your comment up for defence. The idiot referal has a bearing on nearly all of us at some point or another when the debate gets unnecessarily personal.
You just have to read the post from top to bottom to spot it unravelling into something beyond a good difference of opinion. I have seen this many a time and then have seen an unwillingness to post, and not without reason as it becomes a waste of time and effort.
I love a good debate and have learnt many things on this site so would hate for people to stop posting because of things getting a touch too personal.
Use it don't use it but it's how I feel.

yup...we all agree SA racing is in a spot of dwang...but then so is the whole country...
we cannot take the high road on horseracing and leave the rest to fester...(my apologies to the Addams Family...)

Are there no MR 74 races in JHB & CPT? I know there aren't enough punters in CPT...
I am not for exclusion but some things get lost in translation...
I don't support the way GC run things but I am more afraid of a monopoly...if you think things are bad now, can you imagine.
Do away with bookmakers and then remove all barriers, if the stakes are high enough the rest will take care of itself.

TS, do you think the competitions board would ever allow a monopoly? I know that was one of the big problems with the divorce from the Cape. Was moving too close to becoming one for their liking.
