A True Story
17 years 1 week ago
Some 2 years ago, just prior to the Emperors Palace 2 yo sale, a breeder telephoned me. He said that he had a really nice horse on the sale and that I should ask my trainer to look at the horse, as it was a really nice specimen. My trainer phoned me prior to the sale and asked if there was any horse I wanted him to look at. Off course I asked him to look at this specific horse.
When the sale was over the trainer phoned me to tell me which horses he had purshased and wanted to know which ones I wanted to take a share in. I immediatly asked what happened to the horse that I ask him to look at. He replied that he was too busy and it had just slipped his mind. I was furious and let him have a piece of my mind as it was not the first time that he had ignored my requests to look at a specific horse. Our relationship became quite strained after this episode, after some good years together.
Keeping the above in mind, the same trainer phoned me a couple of moths later, just prior to the National 2yo sale of the same year, and asked if there were any horses that I wanted him to look at. I replied that there was indeed one. A half brother to a very tallented filly that I raced with him. This filly could really run but had big problems. I left it at that, as after the previous fallout the trainer would not make the same mistake again.
Not long after the sale the same trainer phoned me and once again told me which horses he had bought. Did I want to take a share in any one of them? I immediatlty enquired as to what happened to the horse that I asked him to look at.
He said that he did not look at it as he had heard that it was not a nice horse. I threw my toys out of the cot and from having 30+ horses with the trainer, immedaitly stared moving many horses.
The big question of course is, what is the name of the horse or baby that lead to this major fallout......................JJ the Jet Plane.

Sharkie Im sure that what I say may not help much but lets give our man Lucky some credit, maybe your ex trainer may not have got what Lucky has got out of JJ. I reckon there are big things to come from Lucky.

For a Jet master to have only gone for 70k says alot - He's an enigma and though i can't comment on your trainer not having giving you a good deal i think most trainers passed this one bye - he was bought by an owner and then given to Lucky - almost divine how he found his way there

i think the story of jj should be made into a documentary,it gives hope to small owners like me and to see the owners of . this champ really brings a lump to ones throat..they are living a dream that i hope never ends for them ..this epitomises what racehorse ownership is about...it is way to often for my liking that owners of feature winners are not on course to lead in their horses
