Here’s all any needs to know about why racing is losing rather than gaining business and fans: racing is and always has been an insiders’ game. Until such time as it embraces transparency, it will continue to wither away and eventually become so marginalized that all of us professionals involved will have to actually go to work for a living!

Only big race days bring the fans out
Saturday's used to be our quietest day on abc , now it's just as busy or busier because the quality is better, less guessing and very little Poly

......and in SA,there is a whole age group that got into racing as there was no choice ....it was the only game in town!
I wonder how many of us would have chosen horse racing given today's options?
It is that criteria that should be considered when trying to attract the younger gambler!

Rob before I left the betting shops 4 or 5 years ago in the UK you couldn't get a young punter to bet the horses with someone else's money
Only hope is get them hooked on sports and hope they filter back

I was chatting to a mate, who owns a bar just up the road from Kenilworth racecourse.
He said he loves to go racing once or twice a year, but could never afford to go more often as he can't win because every race is rigged.
He is not talking about ONERS.He says he can see that there are horses in every race that are being set up for a later date.He hates doing his money in cold blood.
It doesn't matter if he's right or wrong. The problem is he perceives it to be so,and so it is true.
The big problem is he said this at a table of about 10 of us,who were part of a sweepstake for the Euro's.He's fifty-something,but the others are late 20's or early 30's.
I couldn't categorically state that he was wrong.
And that's why racing is in trouble, because I've been involved in racing most of my life and I simply can't defend against his statement with conviction. In fact it's pretty spot on.
None of the other guys at the table are going to be rushing to spend their money in OUR game, even though they are more than willing to have a wager on other things.
