I am going to try make it for 2016. 3 tasty derbies on the weekend - Newcastle/ Sunderland, Manchester derby and Chelsea/ West Ham. That would knock off the top 2 on the bucket list. A soccer and racing pigfest. Who's coming along?

Bob - Could you not ask the agency ( Go Travel?) that organises trips to the Dubai Carnival to investigate constructing a package for us (and any others who might be interested).
I'm very keen to go again but, from previous experience, it's quite a schlep to arrange it as a solo traveller as most packaged options only really work for a group of 4 or more.
Although it is expensive I would prefer to be accommodated in the glass fronted restaurant at the finish simply to circumvent the congestion and get a good view. It also includes a reserved grandstand seat.

Can I ask a novice question....
What is a "bumper" and what is a "point to point"?

A bumper is a race on a jumps card that has neither hurdles or fencers
Point to point is a race where you have all sorts of jumps usually raced in the middle of the race course I think that's what it is but I am sure that the pros will have a better description

Bumpers are basically Juvenile flat races for Novice National hunt horses, without hurdles. You can`t have run under rules before racing in a bumper
Point to points are steeple chases run under amateur rules, i used to bookie at the flag racing years ago
In Ireland its used to sell and bring on young horses, in the uk its more of a leasure activity and most pointers are members of fox chasing
