HIGHVELD HORSECARE UNIT.
17 years 2 weeks ago
I received the below, "threat" yesterday in addition I also received a copy of an email sent from Mr Attenborogh to Clyde Basel to confirm that "the money collected on Gomma Gomma day will be sent to HHU and he has spoken to the finance dept to expedite".
I had intended to just post the email, however I do not react well to threats.
I am satisfied that this is the FACTS and TRUTH.
In addition I established that it has nothing to do with the RA, so thanks to Clyde for informing me last Friday, as he was replying to a enquiry from an RA member.
As for troubleshooter, in future he can contact whoever he wants as I am not his messenger and object strongly to his abrupt threatening approach.
I have no intentions of getting involved in another long drawn out thread on this subject and if troubleshooter wishes any further info I suggest he sends an email or phone the gentlemen above.

From Adv B. Maselle
Dear Mr D Scott,
I am sure that you would like the issue of the charity to be received by the HIGHVELD HORSECARE UNIT to go away.
Unfortunately, I cannot rest until the matter has been resolved.
I want to ensure that the HIGHVELD HORSECARE UNIT receives everything that is due to it.
I remind you that you posted this yesterday:-
“I then obtained Larry,s number and asked him the same story and he confirmed that the money would be paid to the trust and would send me an email on Thursday when he is back in the office, to confirm this, however he is not impressed by having to report to TS, and when I receive this email I will post to hopefully close the issue.”
[The underlining is my emphasis]
From what you posted the following arises, namely:-
1. The Chairman of the RA confirmed to you that:-
a. the money (presumably the gate money on Gomma Gomma day) would be paid to the HIGHVELD HORSECARE UNIT; and
b. he would send you an e-mail today (Thursday) to confirm the above.
2. When you receive the e-mail from the Chairman of the RA, you will post on ABC the contents of the e-mail.
Please note that I am not doing this for myself, I am doing it to ensure that people in authority in horseracing who make promises and undertakings keep to them and so the HIGHVELD HORSECARE UNIT ultimately benefits.
I hope the Chairman of the RA will keep his word to you and send confirmation to that the money will be paid to the HIGHVELD HORSECARE UNIT.
It would be nice if the Chairman gave you the amount to be paid, when it will be paid and how it is made up. Maybe it is too much to expect these figures, however, they should be available and at the fingertips of the RA.
I have sent this mail to you in an endeavour to stop the unpleasantness and to resolve parts of this issue outside the public eye.
If Mr Weinstein is unable to keep his word on such a simple and genuine issue, I will go public. As I have said before I despise people who do not keep their word, promises and assurances. I remain hopeful that Mr Weinstein will do as he has undertaken.
Should I be satisfied that the RA has paid the HIGHVELD HORSECARE UNIT that to which it is entitled I will publicly commend them.
There is no obligation on you to respond to this e-mail.

I had no intention in replying to you again, however being a lawyer you always have to have the last word.
For your information, I was busy with overseas visitors yesterday and read both emails late last night!
THE FACTS ARE.
I sent an email to Clyde Basel to ask on "your behalf" where the Gomma Gomma money was going.
He replied to me by phone last Friday night and said, he had been under a lot of pressure with the awards etc, but the answer to my question was the HHU.
I then posted on the site, but you continued to hound me for more detail.
I then tried to contact Clyde and ended up speaking to Larry, who felt it was not an RA issue, but would send me confirmation.
The email conformation I received was a copy of the email sent from Attenborogh to Clyde, to confirm that the money is being paid to HHU
End of story from my side.

TS,
I do not know you,and have only ever seen you on tv when you were part of the CO group. What is apparent to me is that you are indeed a man of principle, but as an outsider who has no vested interest in these matters I would like to give you some constructive criticism.
Whilst being a man of principle is an admirable trait, there is no point in being principled if ultimately all you are going to do in the long term is alienate all and sundry.Stand up to your principles, but diplomacy is an aquired art which in my opinion you need to work on.You will simply get stoned-walled at every turn if you continually antagonize.
No man is an island.Your 'me against the world' attitude is admirable in itself, but naive.Building personal relationships and networking is how the world works,so let the human in you come out, because the lawyer in you is a hard-arse and that is the surest way to alienate people.
Keep barking about the issues, but do less biting.I perceive you as a pit-bull,and I am sure others do to.Pit-bulls don't have a great reputation!
Keep fighting the issues and good luck.

This policy of 'quiet diplomacy' is often unhelpful (Thabo and Bob).
TroubleShooter has forced the hand of the RA/Phumelela and they have no choice but to hand over the much needed funds to the admirable Highveld Horsecare Unit, which thrills most of us who love horses, no end.
That is the most important issue and best outcome, after all.
Well done to TroubleShooter.

Final reply and response to T.S.
You appear rather "thick" or have a bad memory, so let me walk you through it for the last time!

Subject: Gomma Gomma charity.
Good morning Clyde
I write this to you as Dave Scott and with no hidden agendas, could you please just tell me the name of the charity that benefited from the Gomma Gomma day, to help me silence an irate poster.
It is not my intention to enter into detail or quote anyone, I just want to post
"Hospice" or whatever?
Thanks
Dave
cell number deleted.
2] Clyde phoned me and said it was HHU, I thanked him and posted the reply.
3] You were not satisfied, so I tried to phone Clyde for confirmation of payment, he was not available
and I spoke with Larry. I explained the situation, and he said he would send me something via email when he returned to the office.
4] I was emailed this.
Hi Clyde
I confirm the Gomma Gomma gate money collected on the 3rd May [lessVAT] will be donated to the HIGHVELD HORSE CARE UNIT. I have spoken to finance to expediate payment.
David
END OF STORY!

I 100% agree Cats.
Dave is a very nice man whom I have met a couple of times and believe he is as sincere and principled as Brett.
However, Dave I believe is like myself, in trying to bring people together by putting difference's aside and finding common ground. Any areas of such disagreement, being put to one side, so as to move forward on those areas of concensus.
Thereafter, should anyone wish to pursue said differences further - whether legal or otherwise, the option is still open to them.
Which I believe, the outcome of which would be some movement toward common 'our' goals without a need for an adverserial relationship.
Brett, I have also met, and he too is a nice man, again principled and sincere.
And I believe if he had been initially treated with the respect that his concerns deserved, most of this anomosity would not have occured!
However, I also believe that so much water has now passed under the bridge, that it flows both ways - so to speak, which with the amount of flak that's been flying about is absolutely no surprise either.
I'm personally sure though, that if everyone took a step back, reviewed their position, and tried a more consilatry approach (which I sincerely believe has the interest of 'Racing'at heart and put any personal issues to one side).
'We' could have things like Cuckoo mentioned on another thread: 'Stakes Increase's', sorted out, for the betterment of All owners.
In closing, 'we' have far more that unites us - then 'seperates' us.
And I for one think it a crying shame that two very 'Good Men', find themselves in this situation, and echo Cats sentiments that you should get together, and have a chat over your differences.
Because imvho, you both have the interests of racing at heart and as the saying goes 'united we stand - divided will fall'.
Yours most sincerely, Jim.
