King George Chase E/W Betting
9 years 5 months ago - 9 years 5 months ago
If you are planning to bet E/W with a UK/Irish bookmaker in the King George on Saturday (I fancy Silviniaco Conti E/W at 9/1 myself), make sure that your bookmaker is offering 1/4 odds for three places and not 1/5. There are a small number of UK & Irish-based operators who are currently only offering 1/5 the odds a place - namely Betfred/Totesport, Boylesports, Paddy Power (!), 10Bet, 888Sport and 32RedSport. Hopefully these will all revert to 1/4 the odds by Saturday, but don't bank on it. Very, very poor in my view.

Steck SC going for the hat trick but a very strong open looking race although only 9 runners many with chances ??
IMO probably better punting opportunities on the day but
Good punting

I think the race might be run to suit SC and we know he loves the track. The danger is that he might not be quite as good as he was and some of his main rivals still look to be progressing. That said, 9/1 seems a bit too big with only nine runners. You're quite right, though, Dave - there are far better punting opportunities on Saturday than what looks a very competitive King George.

Had a look at the card and Altior should win the opener and Faugheen should get back to winning ways and win by half the racetrack
Other races to consider for exotics ?
Tea for Two can beat Native River.
The big one where Cue Card, Don Cossack, Voutour and Silviniaco Conti should fight out the finish so maybe a boxed quartet
The last a potential field race where Sugar Baron, Bells n Banjos and Simply a Legend look the best
Good punting

Forget the small field - this is one mighty contest.
Silvinianco Conti was up with them for a long way at Ascot recently before Thistlecrack blew them all away in the final stretch. Wasn't quite sure whether he was short of a run or perhaps just past his best at this level.
I think I'll probably go for a Faugheen x Don Cossack double but wouldn't be surprised if I ended up with bus tickets in a field this potent.
Don Cossack boasts only one 'blapse' in recent outings whereas Faugheen's win by 40(?) lengths was breathtaking despite being beaten by his stable companion in his recent reappearance.
I suspect it will all come down to who gets around without a jumping error; as that is what tends to separate them at this stellar level.

Yes, the jumping will be crucial and could be Vautour's Achilles heel, as it was at Leopardstown last Christmas (the only time he's been beaten since he came over from France).
