After being on course yesterday, I must say that the day was world class. From a punting perspective, the enhanced presence of Betting World and the new fresh presence of WSB, the course felt alive! Everybody was getting their bets on and I even saw some people even comparing prices between the 2 bookies! Tell me that is not healthy for the game?
Yes there was the sideshow of the stage and so on which I think is a bit much but I understand it's place on a day like this. Yet it could be refined and merged together with the racing a bit more but it is what it is. Having the music louder than the on course commentary during some races up until the last 400m is an example of this.
What was so refreshing though was hearing the crowd cheer the start of the Summer Cup and hearing the roar of the crowd for every finish. The racing lived up to its billing and we saw some great horses!
All in all I loved every second of the day and although I do not know what turnover figures were, I do think the day will have been a success. It looks like we finally starting to get things together on the big days. Well done to all and thank you.
