The Vaal racecourse is being sold!!!!!

a very good friend of mine tells me that negotiations are well advanced regarding the selling off of the Vaal racecourse. Details are sketchy but apparently involve mining operations on the property. It is unclear whether racing will continue there and what the fate of Vaal trainers is. Bob can you ask your contacts at the Vaal for comments please. I was under the impression that the Vaal was owned by Anglo American but was told that Phumelela bought it cheap on the quiet a few years ago. Another selling off of assets for Rian and his merry men.

If this is true To me it seems that phum and gang going forward only want to have 0NE race track per center. feel bad for all the trainers and owners out @ the vaal.

Not sure what kind of mining would be involved, but with resources under the kosh for the forseeable future.... Most mining companies are scaling down. {waves Lonmin goodnight}.... {watches Thabazimbi close its shafts....}....I am not sure who would be willing to pay any type of price right now for only underground assets.

That is a lot of nonsense. Phum have just paid an outside company to add to our original objections re the EIA and they have done an excellent job.
The results of the EIA were open to public inspection during the whole of October , after which it went to the Free State govt.
At our meetings yesterday, we again informed VaalTrainers as to the status of the whole process. Phum bought the ground and are now spending money on the new Turf course. The actual ground on which the Vaal stands has a very thin layer of coal under a small section of the course, so it has little commercial value to the mine, which is why they sold it to phum in the first place.
Amongst other things, it has been suggested that Phum build more stables at Vaal. This suggestion from a Phum Manager.
Maybe someone has misunderstood the current position and the process.
There is no way that Phum will sell Vaal and exactly who would want to buy it ????

Louis I have just spoken to my friend. He tells me that he was told this by his trainer who is based at the Vaal on the weekend.
