Tony McCoy to join Channel 4 Racing team

TONY MCCOY is to return to our screens this winter after signing a deal with Channel 4 Racing that will involve him joining the presentation team at many major racedays.

Beginning with Cheltenham's Open meeting on November 14, 20-time champion jockey McCoy will be a regular fixture through the jumps season and will also figure at several of the biggest Flat meetings, such as Royal Ascot and the Derby.

McCoy said: "I’ve been very lucky and privileged to have enjoyed a fantastic career as a jump jockey. I’m looking forward to working with Channel 4 over the next year and delighted to be back at some of the main festivals with a top presentation team."

As part of the deal, McCoy will also be in front of camera at the Hennessy, the King George, Cheltenham's Trials meeting and two days at the Cheltenham Festival. He will also join the line-up for racing's biggest day, the Crabbie's Grand National.

On the Flat, McCoy will work at the Investec Derby, two days of Royal Ascot, the Ebor meeting and Qipco British Champions Day.

At many of those meetings McCoy will team up with Clare Balding, who this week expanded her own commitment to Channel 4 Racing, to form one of sport's most recognisable broadcasting duos.

Balding said: “I love the sport, the horses and the people in racing; and I feel particularly privileged to get the chance to work with AP McCoy. To hear his unique insight and opinion will be fascinating for all of us."

Ed Havard, Channel 4’s head of TV events, added: "AP is the most celebrated jockey in the world and is one of the greatest sportsmen of all time.
