Statistics to date...
9 years 9 months ago
It seems like an infinity since the last time I actively punted with exception of a R20.00 or R50.00 double here and there. Here is what I've noticed the last few months;
1. I have much more spare cash to spend on the things I've always wanted to do,
2. I'm far less stressed,
3. My relationship with my family has blossomed to new heights,
4. I can now enjoy watching a race free of emotional attachment,
5. I have so much spare time these days even although my days are busy,
6. My cellphone bill has reduced by 70%
7. I sleep better, eat healthier and excercise more often
It seems racing and punting consumed me more than I thought, I became a prime example of how NOT to punt, I have more appreciation for the level headed punters (although very few and far between). I still love the race horse and the wonderful spectacle of great horse racing.
I still enjoy reading ABC on a daily basis and the great input from all you clanners.
I guess the point of it all is that despite the above benefits I can honestly say I enjoy racing now more than ever, racing can be enjoyed without spending ridiculous amounts of money and then hoping it all comes together, sometimes it does but most times it just doesn't.
Anyways just thought I'd share my work in progress.

Winning Post... I concur.
I also went off track recently backing horses and taking doubles etc.
I was 28k down last month and I believe me I did not hear the end of it.
I have since gone back to taking swingers, exacta's and my trusted PA.
Half loaf is better than none

I may not be the best person to respond due to my track record...
But yes, you can find some nice ponies on Formgrids...
I will be the first to admit that, if I were to increase my study time and learn all the other nitty grittys that the handicappers use, I would definitely increase my strike rate...
I have a specific trend I look for (need to fine tune this)... Which Formgrids helps me to identify quickly
I have run a small spread sheet on my selections - For the month of August - just to track this 13% win (would have lost money) and around 62% place (would of gained money) ... this is not the best, but certainly can be improved if I put more time into it - looking for more information to go on - however I am more tracking my results as opposed to putting any money down... I will keep tracking this for the rest of the year and if there is a positive trend (in terms of money) I will probably follow this in the new year.
So currently my time is the only thing being vested in horse racing - and not any funds...
I will gradually increase my study time so that hopefully by the new year I can have a solid plan going forward

Thanks for the reply...
do you follow every race meting ? surly that is a huge work load
starting a " black book " is the way to go but my lazy response is, Thats what the handicapers @ bookmakers do. Id look at formgrids and end up picking the 2 odd ons favorites lol
Oh well i am trying

Just a tip - with Half Penny out the World Cup you can get 9/10 for Wales not to qualify for the quarters ( i see that as huge value )

To put things in perspective, if you were told that you have no more than 3 months to live ( like somebody I know), would you look back at your life and wish that you had spent more time studying form and gambling??
I have also cut my "time spent" racing significantly, admittedly its fun but in the grand scheme of life its a pretty much a waste of precious time.....just my opinion
