YORK EBOR FESTIVAL
9 years 10 months ago - 9 years 9 months ago
Gleneagles is set to sidestep this weekend's Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville and instead head to York for a fascinating clash with Derby hero Golden Horn in the Juddmonte International.
The Galileo colt has enjoyed a tremendous campaign for Aidan O'Brien, winning the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and the Irish equivalent before a brilliant display in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Connections have been keen to stick to a mile and after missing the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood due to unsuitable ground, he looked set to cross the Channel for Sunday's Group One.
However, O'Brien feels conditions at Deauville will be against his star three-year-old and as a result, he is set to step up to a mile and a quarter for the first time on the Knavesmire next Wednesday.
"The chances of him running in the Prix Jacques le Marois on Sunday are unfortunately fading with the forecast," O'Brien told www.coolmore.com .
" I've always considered Gleneagles a true miler but he needs good fast ground to be seen at his best therefore York will probably be his next race as we are running out of options with him.
"It's a very sporting gesture by his owners."

Nothing to lose, we all seen the slight flatspot that Golden Horn showed in the Eclipse when he looked introuble ( ended up pishing in ) so Gleneagles either beats the best 3yo turf horse on the planet increasing his stock or loses to the best and reverts to being the best 1600m horse on the planet ..

Will only run if going is suitable. So hope for no rain tomorrow. Wouldn't rule out Grey gadspy getting closer or splitting them tbh.

Interesting that from 5 tipsters 3 go for Golden Horn and 2 for Time Test ( channel 4 panel )
O`Brien said they have to run somewhere ( been scratched twice because of soft going )and they think Gleneagles is a miler.. making excuses already?
