GOLD AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW
9 years 10 months agoChampions Season 2015, a colourful three-month feast of the best thoroughbred racing in the country, comes to a close at Greyville on Saturday, 1 August 2015, as 16 big-chested warriors battle it out for the pot of gold at the end of the 3 200m eLan Property Group Gold Cup.
It is Super Saturday where, like Vodacom Durban July Day, huge betting pools will operate and large dividends are likely.
The eLan Property Group Gold Cup is the toughest test for thoroughbreds in the country with stamina, fitness and tactics crucial elements for success in a race with a history dating back to its first running in 1921.
It is the premier event on Super Saturday, a Grade 1 race carrying a stake of R1.25-million with the R1-million Champions Cup, the R600 000, Grade 1 Premiers Champion Stakes and the R600 000, Grade 1 Thekwini Stakes as well as three other feature races as supporting events.
This meeting will be the final opportunity for racegoers to see some of the country’s top horses in action as they will be returning to their home bases in Gauteng and the Western Cape to prepare for the major racing seasons in their regions. It is the grand finale with the 12 races taking the action well into the evening.
LARGE TOTE POOLS
Super Saturday is one of the biggest race meetings of the year and the second biggest in KwaZulu-Natal and, like Vodacom Durban July Day, tote turnovers are huge.
On Saturday the Pick 6 Megapool is expected to reach R6-million and the Quartet Maxipool on the eLan Property Group Gold Cup is estimated to top the R3-million mark.
With the Gold Cup and the other feature events looking very competitive and with the exotic pools on Vodacom Durban July having broken records, the estimated pools for all bets on Saturday could again surpass all expectations.
There is big money to be made so make sure you make a bid to get your share.
CHARITIES TO BENEFIT
Life for many is a daily struggle and for some, survival depends on the help of the many charity, fundraising and service organisations whose members work tirelessly to help.
Gold Circle is very conscious of its community responsibilities and eLan Property Group Gold Cup Day on Super Saturday has become its primary contribution to the cause. Since 2003 the company has provided marquees, tables and chairs free of charge to enable these organisations to host supporters for an exciting day the races.
This year 16 organisations will be providing a variety of hospitality packages at varying prices to the public. You can do your bit for the less fortunate by contacting the organisation of your choice from the list below and coming to Greyville for a spectacular day of racing featuring four Grade 1 races including the country’s greatest race for stayers, the eLan Property Group Gold Cup.
