BSA Dominate the JULY
9 years 11 months ago
It was a clear cut case of Bloodstock South Africa domination in the running of the 2015 Vodacom Durban July with former BSA bought thoroughbreds filling the first five places in South
Africa’s greatest horse-race.
Power King, a R380 000 buy off the 2012 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, beat Punta Arenas, a R525 000 purchase from the 2010 National Sale, into second, ahead of Tellina (a R210 000 buy from the 2011 National Sale), Futura (a R500 000 buy from the 2012 Emperors Palace National Sale) and favourite Legal Eagle. The latter, one of the leaders of his generation and winner of this season’s Gr1 SA Derby, was knocked down for R425 000 at the 2013 National Sale.
Well done to winning owner Khaya Stables, trainer Dean Kannemeyer and jockey Stuart Randolph, whose charge has now won six of 19 outings and just under R3 million in stakes.
The July was also a triple triumph for Maine Chance Farms, who bred the first three home, and outstanding sire Silvano, the sire of the first three home.
A former champion sire himself, former Arlington Million winner Silvano has now
been represented by three individual July winners, in Bold Silvano, Heavy Metal and Power King.
Bloodstock South Africa would like to congratulate all the winning connections and wishes them all the best in their future endeavours.
