I remember the good old days when I was in a great hurry to get to the racecourse.Parking was always a problem. At Turffies we parked two blocks away in someones yard at R2 the afternoon. The horses crossed the busy roads towards the track. The rush through the masses from the parade ring to the front(track), the long queues at the tote windows, the rush again to get a good spot against the rail at the winning post. At Gosforth Park we parked on the grass about 3 km from the gates. The rush to get through the gates, we didn't mind the entrance fees.
Now, these days I only go to the course if I have a runner.
It's not the same. Those days had a sort of mystery, a exitement, close to leading in a winner.
