Sucks being a Jockey in SA

Jockeys and appies outside the top 30 dont fair much better.

there are 231 jockeys, appies and work riders listed this season.

71 % of all wins and all stakes go to the top 30 jockeys.

29 % gets shared by 201 jockeys even though they ride 50% off all horses
This was from earlier in the season

No disrospect meant to any jockeys .. But there is a massive gulf in class in the jocks

And although the appies are not terrible , there is no stars among them, ask Felix

I have now removed all the jocks that have less than 10 rides in the season. also the work riders.

Leaves me with 96 Jockeys and 32 Appies.

They have ridden combined 32500 horses
They have ridden 3000 winners.
stakes earned 276 million

The top 11 Jocks who are in a league of their own have

Ridden 1250 winners or 41% of all winners
Earned 124 million in stakes or 45% of all stakes earned.
However they only ride 21 % of all horses.

The next 19 jockeys

Rode 905 winners or 30% of all winners
Earned 77 million in stakes or 28% of all stakes earned
They however ride 29% of all the horses.

The remainder 27% gets earned by 97 jockeys and appies. About 75 million.
That equates to 7.5 million "tops" earning potential or 77000 rand per Jockey for the 1st 10 months before deductions.

I hope they earn lots from riding fees. total of 16000 mounts in the 1st 10 months of the season.

There are 2 stars that I will mention and they are RYAN MUNGER and CRAIG ZACKEY. They enjoy what they are doing and are very hard working jockeys that deserve to be mentioned and are respected by top trainers.

Lets be honest its a dangerous and highly competitive job and very tough on the body and hours are heavy.
