Dear Phum, please rerank the Computaform Sprint

Dear Phum (or the RA)

Could you please consider to hear a motion to rank the Computaform Sprint as the biggest race on the highveld. You see, we will never be able to attract the Futura's, Variety Club's, Pocket Power's, et al's to either the Summer Cup or the Challenge. It didnt happen and it wont happen. We will always be disappointed with the quality of the fields for those races. However, the Computaform Sprint has been very successful in attracting the country's best merchants like the Laisser Faire's, Val de Ra's and What A Winter's. Furthermore, coastal trainers dont seem to be afraid of the highveld altitude when raiding for the Computaform Sprint. You will get the best merchants. Just think how this can transcend Johannesburg racing. My proposal for next year is to swop the stakes and make the Sprint the R2m++ race and the Challenge R1million. This will be the highveld's niche and we wont dismally be trying to compete against the coastal Met and July. Think about it.... :)

Wot u smoking Bob ?
Captain of All broke the course record at Scottsville a few weeks ago after a rest when not fully ready and unextended. ..
Tevez, Fly by Night, Alboran Sea, Carry on Alice, Normanz, Dollar Dazzler, Copper Parade etc.
I think that it's the strongest field that I have seen in years. 56 seconds will be too slow, if no rain, IMHO.

And not one of those hold the course record at Scottsville..... have I missed the point ?
Let's bring this thread up again in a year's time.....

The point, though, is that Mac is correct - look which Trainers are bringing their best Sprinters up - Laird, Drier, Bass, Bremner.
Now look at the Presidents challenge........

Louis help me out - A sprinter "should" be easier to travel as he goes flat out and should possibly not run out of puff like a stayer - Would this mean that a Cape horse could fly down and sprint on the same day(I know a few distance horses have done that before with success)? I would support the idea of making the CS the premier stakes race for sprinters by a long way - A very good idea I think

Three of those horses became really great and famous AFTER their respective Computaform Sprint wins and Via Africa was runner-up to Copper Parade who ran a blinder that day. Bob, I think you're feeding the argument :-)

Mac, you have a good point, as I feel the playing fields are far more level over the sprint distance at altitude. Why not make it the premier sprint race (by far) in SA and a huge attraction for all to participate in.

Rather cut the Gold Bowl Stakes - Highest horse rated 100 lowest is a 73 going for a GR 2 while the highest in the sprint is 116 lowest 93!!
