Some pretty ugly shit in PE

Just been told that the reason the yards don't act is because they are scared of strikes.

Not sure if that's a sensible reason or a chicken out ?

Sensible heads need to sort this out asap - Violence is never the answer and imagine the outcry if physical attacks moves to the horses(Not to say that human attacks are lesser but at least humans can defend themselves and give information on their attackers to the authorities)

On face value, from what has been said here, grabbing a young girl by the throat and slapping her surely can't be acceptable to any culture, society, group etc. If they went on strike because action was taken against an individual that acted in such a way then I think they should just shut down SA Racing as such behaviour must not be tolerated anywhere. Whoever needs to act must act... and must act without further delay,

I dont think they scared of strikes , more the strikers armed with panga, knives and steel objects.. security at stables must be upgraded .

Len i was meaning the financial difficulties that could occur if struggling trainers don't earn stakes if their horses are not fit enough to earn etc etc

If you're scared of strikes and don't react,your'e inviting trouble
The perpetrators get away once they'll do it again and again
Not a healthy situation i fear

len im actually amazed racing has gone ahead the last few meetings, must be a very frightening times in PE

Agree Bob safety of all is very important going forward..

I do appreciate the situation Len,it must be real scary living and training this way
It's just that some sort of solution has to be found, and soon
It must be a nightmare working with grooms and not knowing who you can trust

We had it 15 years or so ago at Summerveld. An illegal strike so fired everyone not at work. They rioted in front of the gate and we got the police in and in the end they realised that it was illegal and did not have a leg to stand on. We only took back the non ring leaders. It is absolutely wrong for either side to lift their hands and even touch the other side. At least that groom should be fired and not allowed to work in any training establishment. If the grooms go on strike for that reason it would be that they are condoning that groom's actions and the strike would be illegal. Take it from there.

I would call for a close of racing in PE until this situation is resolved..what if they start getting violent with the horses??
