Kenilworth, 20/12

Have a look at Varster (9/2) in race 5, this is worth a punt. The run of the 16/11/ which Saint Sophia won, Varster at the weight turn-around should finish ahead of Saint Sophia (9/2), Saint Mary (11/2) and Be Fabulous (6/1). The joint 7/2 favourites from the Crawford yard, Elusive Wave and Speedy Chestnut are both stepping up in class, whereas in Varster's favour, 3 of her last 4 runs have been against +MR80 company. Her last run was full of merit considering she was drawn fairly wide (albeit in a small field) and was reported not striding out, but still finished under 4 lengths behind the winner. Saturday if she doesn't have any striding issues, from draw 1, she will put them to the sword.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

So act of war the right horse then. Taking the ride as a longer term business decision because he knows Act of war is Anton's ride when he gets back rather than thinking Harry's Son will win. Happy with that.

Was supposed to have been at Kenilworth for the Guineas but circumstances have put paid to that
.
Race 3, Maidens: HARRYHOPEITHAPPENS; good run last time; Striker rides; only 3rd run; I think worth 4's.
Race 4, Conditions plate: JET BELLE; classy; new trainer; I think worth 15/2.
Race 5, Handicap: dutch ELUSIVE WAVE & SAINT SOPHIA; SAINT SOPHIA was easy and impressive last run; ELUSIVE WAVE - Striker rides and lightly raced; I think the dutch is worth evens.
Race 6, Cape Summer Stayers: CURRENT EVENT; going for 4-in-a-row; hot Snaith trains; you can't get hurt at 20's or more.
Race 7, Cape Guineas: HARRY'S SON; weighted to beat the 3rd rated by 7 lengths; very classy; beaten favourite last run and before that very impressive in the Graham Beck; hot Striker rides; trainer Lafferty is in form; I think worth as short as 75/20.
Race 8, Jet Master: SERISSA; has a good weight advantage; has been racing over further but before that ran a cracker in the Cup Trial; hot Tarry trains; could burgle this race; runs fresh; don't be breaking the bank at 14's plus.
Race 9, handicap: VALERIO; Delpech rides; I think worth 13/2.
Prosperous punting
With thanks to Sporting Post - this is a picture of the Leander Starr Jameson trophy as the prize of its namesake race in Bulawayo (pre-Ascot days). The Mashonaland Turf Club (Harare, Zim) loaned this trophy for the Cape Guineas. I'm not sure if this is still the case. The recipient of the trophy is a Les Bruss.

Act of war by as far as you can throw a stone to beat Brutal Force and Zambezi River.
Take the double with Wavin' Flag far too classy here.
Like Lanner Falcon to run a big one too
