CHICKENS SEIZED - yesterday afternoon our Inspectorate with the assistance of the NSPCA, Vanderbijlpark SPCA and many volunteers seized over 1500 chickens from a farm in Mooilande. The chickens were starved and not provided with water for days, even though running water was readably available on the farm. The chicken houses were dirty, dark and had a strong ammonia smell making these living conditions unbearable for the animals. Sadly many chickens had already died on the farm due to their poor state of health. Education in this case did not work as we tried to work with the owner and previous warnings have been issued which were ignored. Upon our arrival the care taker and farm workers refused to grant us entry even though we were in possession of a warrant from the Vereeniging Magistrates court. The care taker and farm workers also removed carcasses of chickens trying to hide evidence. Our manager was also assaulted during the seizure by the care taker. We are in the process of pressing charges for animal cruelty, obstruction, defeating the ends of justice and common assault. We are in desperate need of support from our community to assist us financially. We never ask for money as we believe this is poor charitable fundraising however this case is of such magnitude that we require all the assistance we can get. Donations can be made directly into our bank account. Thank you to all the volunteers that assisted us until after dark and our supporters for supporting the work we do in our mission to prevent cruelty to animals

There is a trainer at Turffontein and the stables are shocking. The trainer has about 40 horses in his care. I will never give him a horse. The stables are worse than a pig sty.
