Lights out your all doomed
10 years 7 months ago
Social media and whatsapp etc have been a buzz with friends saying they have no power.
Being from the UK I can't imagine this happening, the occasional night during a storm but not on a regular basis like you guys seem to get
Sham it happens at all but on a weekend after working hard all week must sting

Our area in Durban, the electricity went off 2 minutes before the start of the 2nd race today and re-connected 2 hours later (16.10) - reason? - the coal is wet. I didn't know stockpiled coal was meant to be kept under cover - what a load of crap.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Power Cuts Across SA Announced
2 November 2014 | Posted By Dorette De Swart
Eskom will start rolling out blackouts countrywide on Sunday (02/11/14) due to a loss of capacity at its Majuba power station in Mpumalanga, it said.
A crack in a coal storage silo on Saturday afternoon caused the loss of 1800MW, it said in a statement.
The power shortage was expected to last the entire week and blackouts would happen between 8am and 10pm.
The silo, which stores over 10,000 tons of coal, cracked on Saturday afternoon. This affected coal supplies to all six units at the power station. It was generating 1300MW.
“Teams are in the process of dispatching mobile coal feeders to site. In the unlikely event that this contingency is unsuccessful, it may impact the full supply from the power station,” the organisation said.
Eskom engineers were investigating the cause of the crack. Power outage schedules were available on Eskom’s website.

It was generating 1300MW and lost 1800MW...spelling mistake caused by Microsoft Word...
