Emotional weekend for Louis Goosen

FROM THE HEART!
Louis has made no secret over the years of the many valuable lessons which were taught to him by the late, great Buddy Maroun.
And Louis had the great privilege of getting to know Golden Loom, whose nickname was "Goofy", with Buddy. Whilst Louis had nothing to do with Golden Loom's training, he adored the horse, simply for the horse's huge heart, presence and ability.
Years later, Louis was summoned by Frank Soru, to come and inspect the son of Trippi at National Two Year Old Sales. Frank Soru had a "feeling" about this horse and had been advised by people that he would not stand up to training. Louis agreed that there was risk in his legs but had seen the same joint on the same leg once before and the horse had stood up to training...... that horse was Golden Loom.
Louis bought Trip Tease for Frank, sent the horse to Nicoleen Burger at Cornlands Stud, in Bronkhorstspruit a haven for horses which had produced the likes of Renegade, Boss Cat and a few more. At Cornlands Stud, Nicoleen, the daughter of Sarel Janse van Rensburg, let him relax and grow into himself.
On Saturday 1st November, 2014, Trip Tease won The Golden Loom Handicap at Turffontein over 1000m, adding to his Grade 3 win in the Man 'O War stakes earlier this year and to his last win on the sand in the Listed Hampton Handicap.
It was an extremely emotional win for Louis, when his "Goofy" won The Golden Loom, as this was a race he had set his heart on winning.
The Soru family's other runner, De Var Hyt, finished 3rd in the race and they were over the moon with the result.
We dedicate this win to the memory of the late, great Buddy Maroun who taught Louis so much!

"What an emotional weekend - we got lot 2 today and then rushed home from Sales to have fresh seafood prepared by my son, up from Cape Town and got the biggest surprise of my life ! My son bought me my dream bike , a BMW R9T, special edition ! Most humbling experience of my life !"

If I remember correctly, his dictum was "Race them". Don't coddle them.

Correct Dave And Les
His main lesson to me was " we don't run a livery yard - horses are born to race, don't change that !"
But then, the programme allowed it.. ..

Congrats Louis...All well deserved...
I had a small share in a horse trained by BUDDY,who was a great trainer.
My boss at the time eventually told me that I couldn't get off everytime I wanted to see horse run as he ran nearly every 2nd week..
