Here's some stats for you..

Summerhill number of lots sold : 106..
Summerhill buybacks : 20
Jooste : 13
Van Niekerk : 5

38 out of 106 horses = 36% of Summerhill's horses were bought by the owners of the CTS and Summerhill themselves (buybacks)

It was a great Sale and I really enjoyed the venue. As usual, the Cape boys hospitality was a few miles clear of anything out there . I dont know who these caterers "word of mouth" are, but the food was World Class !
We were underbidder on lot 33 and went to 260k on lot 40. Chris v Niekerk/Sean Tarry were too strong for us all on her .
We were happy to get lot 80 for 180k, as she is not only eligible for r2r, but also for the US$1M race.
Earlier in the Sale, we were surprised to be given a release form for lot 51, which was signed for by Gavin Almanza for himself and a few of his Cape Town mates. Gavin says they had more fun buying the horse and dividing it up than they probably will have racing most horses.
Later in the Sale we bought lot 144 for 60k and lot 146 was bought by MJ and given back to us. The son of Trippi is now eligible for "the lot", which is the US$1M, the Cape R2R and the CUP R2R up here.
It was good to see ABC forumite, Zietsman Oosthuyzen at the Sale. Not only was he attending, but he took a few home too, including lot117, which may appear unfashionably bred, but received my highest rating at the gallops for his great action. After the Sale, Ziets drove back to the farm as he had work to do there. He will return tomorrow for the TBA Sale.
What impresses me most about Ziets is his absolute passion for Racing and his fearlessness when it comes to putting in the long hours. Just as I have my "dream team" to thank for putting the hard work into the yard, so too, Bill Human, who can only be better off for the presence and efforts of Ziets.
Racing can do with a few more of these young, seriously passionate horse people who understand that it's hard work and are willing to do it.
Keep it up, Ziets !
