How can we blame bookies for not pricing up early?
10 years 7 months ago
Race 2 we have Louis Goosen making a late change and jocking off Lukas Bester and replacing him with Piere Strydom. With respect to Lukas that is like swopping a Chevy Spark 800cc for a Mercedes Bendz C63 AMG. Bookies factor the jockey engagement and clearly this was a well worked out move to get a better price. It has happened before and good luck to Louis he is a crafty fox and I hope he has got lots of stock at the inflated price.
I have two questions. Is this fair/moral and should this be allowed? In my time there used to be a like for like jockey replacement rule to protect the public. So in this case if Bester got jocked off he had to be replaced by a jockey deemed to be "in his ability" league. Without insulting anyone I would then say that a Benny Dean or Timothy Pretorius of the world would be acceptable and this would have no effect on the horses price or chances. It was also a rule that you could not replace a jockey with a claiming apprentice because this gave the horse a greater chance in theory ( carried less weight ). Personally I believe that this type of move should be disallowed regardless of the circumstances as it affects punters and the integrity of racing.

Hmmmm
I know what your saying , but in this case it will more likely be because Strydom is chasing winners #PS5000

ota I don't know when your time was but I have never seen that ruling of like for like being enforced in my time ..I recall bennie little getting jocked off an hour before the first race at newmarket by jeff Lloyd on a maiden that got heavily punted and the trainer was his son alfie little then I recall a horse of weiho mawings going to bloem and carded to be ridden by danielle macreedy its name I think was the the boogieman and Danielle was caught in traffic on the way to the track and her ride was replaced by mark khan...both won by a street

rob u correct...therefore there maybe 10 jocks sitting in the weighing room..but a horse is scratched because the term "no suitable jockey",being applicable.....but this would work fine if an appy has to be replaced by an appie ,perhaps with the same claiming advantage,as this can be worked out to being like to like....................but how do u measure like for like in the professional ranks...i know lukas bester to striker is deemed the extreme..but the rest?
