SA cricket in NZ
10 years 8 months ago
Next week SA take on the Kiwis at Mount Maunganui on the North Island at a little stadium called the Bay. It reminds me of the old Green Point Stadium in Cape Town where WP played a few day nighters before the lights were erected at Newlands. They played on a carpet wicket and the boundries were up against the fence above the cycling track. Players hit 6s for fun.
This ground in NZ is begging one of the teams to smash 400 off 50 overs and I think that this is possible. There are going to be two matches played there next week and I for one am staying up to watch.

Will also be up and watching...the ODI team is beginning to get settled now and balance seems to be there...
Next year's World Cup is in Aus / NZ...same as in 1992...I was in Std 9 and stayed up to watch the SA matches that only finished about 7 in the morning...I fell asleep in school on more than one occassion !!! The teachers were not sure whether it was their teaching or something else that kept putting me to sleep !!!

yep that was a good world cup. I remember in the first match Donald bowled to Marsh in the first over and he edged the ball to 2nd slip. Everybody knew that he was out yet the Aussie ump said not out. SA went on to win by 7 wickets.

I watched every ball of every SA match during that World Cup...so many highlights...and then when we were eliminated in the semi-final, I didn't eat for two days...but we are older and wiser now and the extent of match fixing has dampened the enthusiasm for the sport as I now watch a match and question everything that seems even marginally odd...
Read a book on fixing and gambling (focus on India - Pakistan semi of 2011 World Cup)...worrying what is still happening whilst the custodians of the game like to convey that all is well...

SA wont win a world cup so long as they have no world class spinner and a bowler who can bowl cutters on a regular basis. We also need another Kuiper,Kemp or Klusener (funny how all the best big hitters surname all begins with K) My money is on the West Indies and New Zealand.

my mistake as i thought that they would be playing at the rugby/stock car stadium down the road. Instead they are playing on the industrial site of the town.

the match which is now been played will be the last that the West Indies play on their Indian tour. They still had one more ODI plus a 20/20 and 3 test matches but the players have refused to play as they are not getting enough money. Jeepers here you have a team of players who are lucky enough to be good enough to represent your nation and you are moaning about the fact that you don't earn enough. Next time you are in Kingston in Jamaica take a walk down town and see how the people are living. I have with my own eyes seen kids in Kingston sleeping in cardboard boxes and eating left overs from the gutters in the street and these prima donnas are complaining about money. The ICC should ban the lot of them, but they wont care as a lot of them have contracts in the games biggest cancer, the IPL.

NZ 6/4 for the 1st match. Giveaway imo as we all under estimate them. They are very good in the one dayers.

i would tread carefully. I do agree they are very good in the shorter formats, however 2 of there mainstayers kane williamson and ross taylor not playing the 1st odi. Taylor out for all the odi's, williamson back for the 2nd.

nice win with Tahir really impressive with his variation. I hope that they give the entire squad a game instead of sticking with the same 11 on this short tour of NZ as their team selection is going to have to be spot on when they take on the Aussies in a couple of weeks.
