Shrek, i spoke of this some time back, can't remember the thread title, however one of the clanners, i think he's daughter works or worked for the tote, said it was impossible bacause of the measures put in place. We live and learn, i guess.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Cant see how the manager doesn't demand to see all cancelled tickets for each day and an explanation to why each one is cancelled...Staff should be liable if they don't have the cancelled ticket in there possession as there is no reason for the punter to have it ,after been cancelled. .

Hi Keeran, I had a similar incident with a bookmaker in Hunter Street Durban a few years ago. Golden Loom finished second but was declared a non runner. I had a treble to win R30,000.00 and was told because I did not have the original ticket and I had to wait three months. I was called by the clerk that took my bet telling me the ticket was collected the very same night but did not have the stub to show me. I ran up a debt of R90,000.00 and told the Bookie to FARK himself and never heard or saw him again.

Just an opinion and reading the original post the manager is in on it...

while this is a serious topic..just thought i tell u how we were scammed, not sure if this is light hearted or serious, whether to laugh or cry but here goes:
a group of us (around 20 of us) hired a box on gold cup day, about 15 years ago...actually longer the year bella something? won with felix up.
so we had a waiter assigned to our box and amongst getting the food and drinks,we told him that he must be our runner to go take our tote bets,as he said he doesnt have to follow queues..so all well and good he did his job...and had a splendid day losing our money as usual...guys got really drunk and were taking bets on horses that even had 3 legs..lol
but the biggest winner on the day was the waiter...and not from the tips, which he also got..but the scams he pulled off,...
what he would do...was assess the race...if he saw one of the guys for example take 2 roughies for a swinger for R50.00...on the first race,he would take the same numbers intentionally on the 2nd race...and come leave the ticket on the table with the guys name on it..so the race runs the swinger misses..he cleans the table, takes the ticket and get a full refund as the race for us is already"run"but the ticket is still alive for him...he must have taken us for about 2k min and he was just lucky that it was losing bets...and if it did come thru..he would have brushed it up as the mistake of the teller, and probably mended his ways for the rest of the afternoon.....but as long as the afternoon went he continued his merry scam..at about 6 that afternoon getting ready to leave.....the supervisor in jest as he was passing our box said to one of the guys..this has to be the drunken box...as he had to authorise all cancelled bets and he was using just one teller all the time so the supervisor must have had a stack of cancelled tickets...by then it was too late to even open an enquiry as most were crawling anyway, and none of the bets would have been a winner ....so we had a waiter and a goer...lol
It's a common thing, been happening in tote and bookmaker shop for many many years.
What gets me is that they still allow the person to work there for as you say the site owner is aware of it. as for having the original ticket. I know here in Western Cape. if your ticket is canceled and you still have said ticket in your hand and its not been defaced that its a canceled ticket the WCGRB will tell the Bookmaker or Tote to pay you out.
So as you said what if it was a R300 000 ticket.. u just stroll off to the Gambling board tell the story .
100 percent correct, still happening .

....this can and maybe still does happen....saw it happen to a big punter some years ago.....but it can only happen when one is gaming on credit....you dont pay the tote operator and he/she retains the ticket.....once you play a bet the ticket is made available instantaneously and once you have it in your hand the bet cannot be cancelled unless the ticket is passed back through the machine to affect the cancellation....if you see the operator take your ticket and pass/feed it back through the machine then it is obvious that the ticket is being cancelled.....if you are in possession of a ticket that has been cancelled you can lay charges of fraud on the operator and establishment where the ticket has been taken.....there is supposed to be checks and balances as the cancelled ticket has to be attached to the cancellation slip and entered into cancelled tickets at cash up .....the only excuse for the ticket not being there is the operator says the bet was printed and then was cancelled and ticket was taken by the bettor without paying.....so do not leave your ticket with the operator while you go out to fetch the cash.....
