The 6th race today raises an interesting question IMO.
One horse pre-empts the start and a false start is called, adversely affecting the chances of the rest of the field.
To add insult to injury the transgressor is already being pulled up as the rest of the field is being released.
The transgressor then goes on to win!
Would it not be fairer for the race to be run as normal and the transgressor scratched (or even disqualified?) Seems wrong that a horse, that causes a problem, should benefit from it.
We do not seem to see nearly as many of these controversial start situations in all the international racing we watch!

.....I'm with you on this one Rob....why compromise the whole field by declaring a false start
...simply make the errand early starter a non- runner....also should a gate fail to open.... make that horse a non runner....no use all but one jumping on terms and spoil the race with a restart....imo the horse that could not be restrained and almost covered the distance should have been scratched.....but hey rules are there for the whole field to make an error...
no more rub of the green stuff.....

Rob, a very good post. The Trainers and Jockeys asked for the same thing the other day when Chill went 600m after a false start. The horse that caused the problem pulled up quickly. All the Jockeys and Trainers said afterwards that the race should have carried on and the perpetrator disqualified. That going 600m at pace cost chill the race as he was only caught very late by horses that had pulled up straight away.
